Conservative/Republican Freethinkers ZOT
Posted on 10/19/2005 2:01:52 AM PDT by frikativ54
Hi,
I am the Founder of the Reed College Freethinkers, a college atheist, agnostic, humanist, liberal Christian, and Separation of Church and State group, based in Portland, Oregon. We noticed that the majority of freethinkers are liberals, or at least those who seem to speak out tend to be left-of-center. While I consider myself to be a moderate, I was wondering if anyone knows of any prominent (or fairly prominent) conservatives/Republicans who also espouse some brand of freethought? If so, could you please list the person and contact information, if possible. Or feel free to contact me directly at reed.freethinkers@gmail.com.

Please define "Free Thinker". If you're having trouble finding conservative free thinkers, the problem may be your narrow definition of what constitutes acceptable thoughts.

Before you go, let me disabuse you of your entire false premise.
These so-called "free thinkers" on the left are not free thinkers at all. They all march in lockstep conformity on most if not all things, and are the least tolerant among us of dissenting opinions.
Try this little exercise at your "Freethinkers" group.
Proclaim "I believe Marxism is a bankrupt ideology," or "I think George W. Bush is a good President."
I know you won't, though, properly fearing the violent reaction you would receive.

Ah yes. How eloquently and yet simply you expose the hypocrisy.

We noticed that the majority of freethinkers are liberals, or at least those who seem to speak out tend to be left-of-center. Well, I for one agree...the Left are freethinkers...their thought is free from facts, free from truth and free from rational, logical reasoning.

Am I the only one who thinks it's funny that someone would have such a high view of himself relative to others that he'd accept the label "free thinker?"

The opinions of Free Thinkers are worth every penny you pay for them.
When ever someone wants to give you their two cents, ask for cash and in large unmarked bills.

To: frikativ54
Freethinkers?
Well if I take the definition of the word at face value, then anyone her at FR is a Freethinker. Somehow, I'll bet you have a definition that deviates from the face value of the word.
Welcome to Free Republic. Enjoy your short stay.

No, the majority of freethinkers are NOT liberals.
You guys like to claim to be freethinkers, but the reality is that you guys don't think freely for yourselves, you have to wait for the latest talking points via the DNC fax machines.

I don't think the post's author ever said he/she/it was a liberal.He/she/it didn't have to. :D
To: dubya4diktator
I mean he did say he was a moderate and seemed interested our side's views. No, he wanted to know if any prominent person on the right espoused "freethought". That's different.
If we turn away people like that, I think we are actually hurting our cause.
And if we let them in, the place becomes tedious. Been tried. No thanks.
(What's this "we" business anyway, newbie?)
It just contributes to the perception that we are narrow-minded anti-intellectuals.
You thought that was the post of an intellectual? LOL
To: dubya4diktator
Did you read the first sentence? I doubt it, troll, but I'll help yuo out.

liberal
Christian, and Separation...Can you see it now? I though that would help.

And if we (read: right of center conservative folk) ban them, then they will go and badmouth conservatism. They'll do that regardless.
You're becoming tedious yourself, frikativ55.
To: dubya4diktator
w/e. I was going to apologize for calling you troll right off the bat, but won't. A troll sympathisizer is as bad as a troll, just like Code pink, the terrorist sympathizers are as bad, if not worse than, the terrorists.
