Thought you might be interested in what the ex-husband had to say about this. And consider she could have gotten 30 yrs jailtime and committed the crime both at her home and at school. Seems that "all of us" actually don't think there isn't a double standard after all..
Debra Lafave, 25, will serve three years of house arrest and seven years of probation. She pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery. If convicted at trial in Hillsborough County, she could have faced up to 15 years in prison on each count.
Lafave's ex-husband, Owen Lafave, said Wednesday that she was being treated for mental problems when she committed the crime, but it was a double standard that she avoided prison.
"She is a sexual offender and if it were a male she would have definitely gotten jail time," he said in a television interview Wednesday.
Nobody suggested 'all of us,' so your reference to that is incongruous and misplaced.
As for ex hubby's opinion, guys who have been cuckolded by their attractive wives and a teenage boy might just harbor quite a bit negativity towards their brides. Reliance on his perspective is misplaced, also. He has no clarity on the matter and has been sexually humiliated by a teenage boy - a tough one to bounce back from in the men's locker room.
Again, there is no double standard (two standards for the same thing), but rather a broad (but not complete) consensus that there are two standards for two different things. Most people find an adult male having a sexual liason with a teenage girl to be more serious problem than an adult woman having a sexual liason with a teenage boy.
