Redheads Reign Again

Redheads are rare in our society -- only about 3 percent of the population. But they've had to endure endless stereotyping.

There's bad news for blondes these days in Hollywood.

Just check out the hair color on some of the biggest stars going: Nicole Kidman. Tyra Banks. "Desperate" housewife Marcia Cross. "Will & Grace's" Debra Messing. "Sex and the City's" Cynthia Nixon.

"Red is the new blonde," says Tim Rogers, editorial stylist and spokesman for Charles Worthington hair and beauty salons in London. "She is a head-turning hybrid between the moody brunette and the bubbly blonde. She's not afraid to have fun and get noticed."

Because red hair is so rare in our society -- only about 3 percent of the population has it -- such stereotypes tormented many a redheaded child, Heckert says. They were called "Carrot Top," and "Red," or dismissed as the "redheaded stepchild."

"Red hair is so bold," says Heckert, a strawberry blonde. "And kids always pick on what's different. The bolder the shade, the more they felt stigmatized."

But today's celebrities appear to have taken the stereotypes and turned them on their scarlet heads.

My favorite ex-girlfriends were all redheads. My darling wife has a touch of the auburn in her hair.

Works for me...

My daughter has red hair. As such, I tend to notice that there are a LOT (or so it seems) of children these days with red hair. Funny how you perceive things some times.

Debra Messing comes across as liberal, and her show sucks (but has it's funny moments...) but she is HOT as far as I'm concerned.

Funny, I don't find a single one of these HOT. Well, maybe Tyra Banks.... Now, Lindsey Lohan on the other hand....

As much as I have an attraction towards redheads, they have been nothing but bad luck for me. I'm sticking with brunettes (there's more of them anyway!). ;-)

Mo'Dowdy, a natural redhead? Right. To paraphrase Merle Haggard, "Tonight, the bottle let her down".

Nicole Kidman? Have never understood what the big deal is...

Marcia Cross? Too austere....

Cynthia Nixon? Maybe attractive when placed next to horse-faced SJP.....

Debra Messing? Absolutely nothing up top.....

Maureen O'Hara, hell yes, Sissy Spacek, yes!
