A transsexual woman died four days after a melee with sheriff's deputies at the downtown jail. The medical examiner's office was awaiting toxicology results before announcing a cause of death. "There is nothing to indicate that the use of force caused this death," Sgt. Rick Empson said Monday. Vanessa Facen, 35, had fought with deputies and medical personnel numerous times since she was found naked and bleeding inside her neighbor's Spring Valley home on Nov. 17. Facen apparently climbed onto the balcony, dived through a neighbor's glass door and tumbled down a flight of stairs. Facen, who was "covered with blood from head to toe," opened the door for deputies, told them she was HIV-positive and appeared to be cooperating, Sgt. Paul Robbins said. But she became enraged en route to a hospital, broke free from her leg restraints and kicked out the window of the ambulance, the sergeant said. She was sedated, treated and released later in the day. Empson said she became violent again after leaving the hospital and kicked out the window of a patrol car.

"Released later in the day"?.....if that had been a straight, white male, who was not HIV positive, he would have still been in jail.....IMHO

well, the important thing is, if he/she had an accidental death only policy, it probably wouldn't be paid because the fracas wasn't the proximate cause of death...
Isn't it interesting that the biggest news of this incident is that it involved a transexual. Political correctness has a way of dehumanizing and stereotyping everyone into its own discrete categories. Everyone is identified by a prefix that determines their moral worth, like black, hispanic, gay, HIV positive, conservative, Christian, Republican, white, etc. This prefix always telegraphs the slant the story will take or at least the emotions the story is intended to stir. To the left, you're not a person; you're a label, and that's the only value a life represents.
That's about as severe an assault on a transexual's persona as you can make, roughly the equivalent of force-feeding pork to a devout Jew; no wonder she became violent. The cops should have known better.

Did Robbins call him a she? Did Empson call him a she.
The reporter would have you think so by putting she and "xxx said" in the same sentence.
That always amuses me. "Lived as" a woman? You either are, or aren't. I mean if a guy wants to dress like RuPaul that's OK by me, but he's still a "he" as far as I am concerned.
If it's a weiner you see, then a man you be.
At this point, I would say "Sorry to bother you" and quietly close the door. Guess I wouldn't make it as a paramedic.
The cops should have known better and made better accomodations for the tranny? A mental illness, a pair of plastic boobs and a dress does not a woman make. The police--and by extension the government--should never be required to bow down to such PC delusions.
