"But don't forget the episode where they really make fun of the Mormons - where they describe the origins of the Mormon religion and sing "dumb, dumb, dumb" in the background. You only notice it when one woman questions the religion with some obvious observations and the singing changes to "smart, smart, smart.""

A Top-5 episode in my book. Absolutely hilarious.

You mean this:

I heard there is no Christmas
In the silly Middle East
No trees, no snow, no Santa Claus
They have different religious beliefs

They believe in Muhammad
And not in our holiday
And so every December
I go to the Middle East and say…

“Hey there Mr. Muslim
Merry f*ing Christmas
Put down that book the Koran
And hear some holiday wishes.

I second your "bingo." People flocking to stuff like this just makes me cringe.

"What's wrong with that? At 10 pm, after a hard day's work, I just want to sit be entertained, and maybe even disengage the brain..."

Everything is wrong with that...you could be looking at the moon, playing with Rover, reading about the upper Amazon, making love to your wife, cooking up some gingerbread, putting your two-cents worth on Free Republic, writing a letter to Aunt Nan, hand-loading up some good 25-35 Winchester cartridges, changing out the oil in your motorcycle, gossiping about your neighbors, distribution large extraterrestrial seed pods to your neighbor's garden.....remember life is short.

SP has already done an episode on that, when Kyle's mom wanted all Christian references out of the school during Christmas.

This thread is becoming a "South Park did it!" version of South Park's "The Simpson's did it."

Isn't there a song on South Park. . .Merry f'ing Christmas?

Mr. Hanky's Christmas Classics:

Hey there Mr Muslim, Merry F&$#*& Christmas
Put down that book 'The Koran'
and hear some holiday wish-es
In case you haven't noticed,
it's Jesus's Birthday
So get off your heathen Muslim Ass
And F&$#*& celebrate.

Complete Merry F&$#*& Christmas lyrics: Artist South Park (Caution -F-Bomb)

Now - point me back to all those people who think Matt and Trey are afraid of offending Muslims.

They did the ultra-modern mime dancing in gray unit suits. What a Classic!

" The alcoholic who just stops drinking -- South Park's simplistic "solution" to Stan Marsh's imaginary problem -- is just a dry drunk, a relapse waiting to happen. For the solution to be permanent and effective, there are 11 more steps to go through, and dodging accountability is absolute anathema to that process."

I disagree. The President never completed a 12-step program and hasn't had a drink in years.

Overly dependant? If most of the buzz about a particular entertainer revolves around the latest 'shocking' thing he did, rather than his talent as an artis of whatever sort, that's a sign that he's overly dependant on shock value. Howard Stern is, again, the pathological example: I'm not sure he has any talent, other than being disgusting and outrageous. Madonna had real talent as a singer, Matt & Trey have real talent in imagining funny situations and expressing them in animation.

I'll admit that the border between overly dependant, and not so, is a bit fuzzy, and a bit elastic. South Park, taken as a whole, is (IMO) somewhere on that border.

" but it's never ok to make fun of people who worship a bleeding statue..
Yea, no more bleeding statues."

As Homer Simpson would say "It's funny because it's true!"

"Why would any adult watch such childish filth?"

I haven't had tv since 1997, but my daughter came home from school one time and had me download a couple of episodes from Kazaa. One was the Mormon episode, the other was the "Christian" rock star. I thought both were great. I liked the mormon one becase it was like a political cartoon, making a real point. There is even a web site that disects the episode to compare it's historical representation to the "real" history and it nailed things surprisingly well. Of course having studied the history of this church, I was already aware of that, which is why I thought it was an "important" episode.

The Christian music one did not slam Christianity at all. It exposed people in general, and the main character, specifically. It also carried the fear of things like Kazaa as a subtheme which made it extra funny.

Of course, I use limewire now...

Tell that to the millions who are alive today because of a 12-step program.

Yet the data shows that just as many of them would still be alive if there were no AA. For every AA-cured person, there are one or more people who recovered with no treatment whatsoever. And this is over a 20-year span, so the AA claim that those who just stop drinking are walking timebombs isn't valid either. Even Bush stopped drinking the old-fashioned way -- he just stopped.

AA's supposed success is based on argument from anecdote. You see all those individual successes, so you think the the program must be effective.

Maybe to you, but you have to admit that telling Cartman he was going somewhere worse than Hell, and showing him being dropped off by bus somewhere in Mexico, is hilarious.

"I think the reason South Park stings so badly is because the barbs are being stuck not so much into the religion as they are into some of the practitioners of it."

Bingo! I agree. The episode, as described, was in terribly poor taste however. The point was certainly made though.

It's a hard job, to walk the line. :~D

Most of the buzz here is about the shocking thing that cross the line, because this is a conservative forum. The prudish quotient here is high :~D If you go to a fan site, or somewhere else, they're talking about how funny it is... and discussing the message behind it.

you could be looking at the moon

Seen it.

playing with Rover

Don't have a dog

reading about the upper Amazonreading is for work and right before bedtime. Not at 10pm.

making love to your wife

I'll put aside the obvious joke. Besides, she's busy - watching South Park with me.

cooking up some gingerbread

Yes, let me just call up my time machine to take me back to 1954, and I'll do that.

putting your two-cents worth on Free Republic

plenty of other time for that. As you can see be my presence on this thread. I don't need to be here 24/7.

writing a letter to Aunt Nandon't have an Aunt named Nan...

ok, I'm bored with this now. The point is, at 10 pm at night, it's time to unwind after a long day. I just want to sit down for a while and turn off my brain.

Read what I wrote.

All of it.

I'm not sure what you expect me to disagree with, or what argument of mine you think you're refuting.
