If you're dissatisfied with one Hollywood politician in California, you can always find another as a replacement.
Angered by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's appointment of a Democratic chief of staff, the conservative California Republican Assembly launched a Web site last week urging voters to draft actor Mel Gibson for governor.
Gibson became something of a hero among religious conservatives after his 2004 movie "The Passion of the Christ." CRA President Mike Spence said he was further motivated by Gibson's public opposition to California's $3 billion stem-cell bond in 2004 - a successful ballot measure that Schwarzenegger supported.
"The governor's the one who jumped ship, so we're just trying to find a different captain," Spence said.
Gibson has no plans to run for office, said his publicist, Alan Nierob. The actor-director is in Mexico working on "Apocalypto," a film due in July.
Nierob added that Gibson "talks about politics but never about venturing into politics." Nierob said he doesn't know where Gibson votes, noting he lives in several places, including California.
Party people After suffering a stinging defeat in the special election, Schwarzenegger has taken pains to appeal to moderate voters. Even last week's annual Capitol tree lighting was laced with bipartisanship.
The Rev. Jesse Vaughan of Trinity Cathedral Church started off with a blessing in which he said, "At these times when there are so many labels to divide us ... let us hold our leaders up when they seek to unite us."
Perhaps Schwarzenegger's effort is working already. The event featured singer David Foster, who seemed slightly confused about his own partisan leanings. "I'm a Democrat, but I'm actually happy to be here," Foster told the crowd. "I think I'm a Republican after tonight."

That ought to be some kind of match-up.
The Terminator was actually influenced by the Mad Max films.
Look out, Toecutter.
Whatever happened to that ne'er-do-well Beatty? Couldn't handle the real men?............
Terminator vs Mad Max? Then we wonder why our government is so screwed up.
What about Aslan!
Aslan doesn't have his own tookie tookie boid!
ping
that pic in the background must be reversed - note the lead rider has his hand off of the throttle - his bike would immediately decellerate using engine braking and this would cause those behind him to lose formation...
If anything it will be Terminator vs. Meathead
He's got cruise control.
he's got Ursula (fella), too!
Ah-nuld has involved in political circuits for a while... Has Mel Gibson ever shown interest in politics?
Maybe he jury rigged his bike so he could hold the meat cleaver in his right hand where it would do the most good.
As I recall, there was a fair amount of custom machinery in that movie.
"...that pic in the background must be reversed - note the lead rider has his hand off of the throttle - his bike would immediately decellerate using engine braking and this would cause those behind him to lose formation..."
Keep in mind that's Australia. things related to driving is reversed down under.
Isn't this where the crackpots of the GOP congregate?
I said it about Arnold, and I'll say it about Mel. He has no experience or background to imply he would be a good governor, and there is inadequate evidence that he would be a conservative politician. They need to look somewhere other than Hollywood Central Casting for leadership, imo.
