Another athlete, or relative of an athlete, arrested. Some recent Red Sox-related items have appeared recently: "The 44-year-old son of former Red Sox outfielder Jimmy Piersall was arrested Tuesday after police found more than $100,000 worth of marijuana plants growing in his Hanover home". And various athletes have had run ins with the law...Darryl Strawberry, Steve Howe, and oh yeah, that former running back with the Bills...

Below: in Dalton,MA, hometown of Reardon and also former Sox GM Dan Duquette

Was mentioned on WCVB/5 (Boston) news last night shortly after Patriots game (last ABC-MNF). As they said "he'll be spending a night in the pen, and not the bullpen"

We had Lee Smith but gave him up because we got Reardon. Nice move Lou Gorman.

The ch 5 report said the Reardon family was shook up since last Feb when a 20 yr old son died suddenly, and that Reardon appeared disoriented when taken into custody.

Sad story. We won the Series in '87, though.

Another athelete who burned thru 5-6 million of after tax income and now has nothing. Me thinks the "League" should retain 5% of all atheletes paychecks and invest in a fixed annuity which when the athelete reaches 59 1/2 they receive lifetime payments.

I am good friends with the Reardon family, and they are indeed going through a terrible time. They need our prayers.

I'm willing to stand corrected, we'll see.

They lost their son almost two years ago, and have been struggling ever since. Not financially, but emotionally. They are great people - I have known them for 8 years.

Pretty much already in place, given the MLB pension plan is among the best of any in America. Reardon played for over 14 years in the Major Leagues, so he would be fully vested in a plan that will pay him well over $100K per year at 59. Which makes the robbery even more strange. Unless of course there were a couple nasty divorces in there and some gold-digger took most of the money, which is a real possibility.

No - none of those things happened. They are an emotionally distraught family who lost a son almost 2 years ago. They are fine financially. But Jeff has been struggling with his son's death and has had a very tough time dealing with it.

If you're fine financially, how does robbing a jewelry store help cope with the loss of a family member?

Are you suggesting that he's insane?

We all have problems, we do not commit robberies.

Are you saying he's riding the drug euphoria and knows not what he is doing? Or something similar/
