ATTENTION: LIFETIME HAS TAKEN YOUR CHANNELS AWAY!(From Dish Network)
Dish Network ^ | 1/1/05 | Charlie Ergen, CEO of DISH Network

Posted on 01/01/2006 2:17:12 PM PST by Revel

ATTENTION: LIFETIME HAS TAKEN YOUR CHANNELS AWAY! You may have tuned in today to see the Lifetime Channel or the Lifetime Movie Network.

Unfortunately, DISH Network's contract with Lifetime Networks expired on December 31st and we no longer have the legal right to carry these channels.

I can assure you that at DISH Network we have made every effort to renew our agreement and continue to carry these channels.

However, Lifetime Networks have demanded a rate increase of over 70 percent which would result in unreasonable rate increases for you, our customers.

While we were surprised by Lifetime Network’s outrageous demand, the fact that we have had a good relationship with them for 10 years gives us hope that we can reach a fair agreement.

Until such time as we have a new contract with Lifetime Networks, I hope you will enjoy this free preview of The Women's Entertainment channel.

I am very sorry for any inconvenience.

We appreciate your support and encourage your feedback.

Thank you for being a DISH Network customer.

Sincerely, Charlie Ergen, CEO of DISH Network

I program my remote to skip over that channel.

I mean the neighbors were starting to complain because every time I tried to watch something on it I would end up yelling "For the love of Annie Oakley shoot him you spineless wimp!"

And you probably won't mind watching the same 20 year old movies on SCIFI,USA,And TBS. Some people are like little kids that just keep rewinding the VCR and hitting PLAY again.

I'd almost pay DirecTV if they would drop Lifetime, Oxygen, WE, Soap and Spike. The so-called women's channnels contain only lessons on how to kill your husband or boyfriend and the so-called Spike for Men contains programming which proves that not much would be lost if you did kill him. Satellite TV programming is now as mindless and insulting to one's intelligence as broadcast television which I stopped watching over twenty years ago. Let them increase my rates. I am one step from using my television as an ugly door stop.

Not this woman:)

If I want junk food for my brain I watch the cooking channel or HGTV.

No kidding. Can't tolerate all the nail polish-pantyhose-facials conversations. And all the victimization crying. Sheesh.

I'm on the DirectTV system. ASAIK Lifetime is still on our list, but if they dropped it I couldn't possibly care less. My wife doesn't watch it, and IIRC I have never stopped long enough on that channel while surfing to see what it's all about.

I wish I could just order and pay for the channels I would like to have instead of having to pay for 100 worthless channels we seldom or never watch in order to get the 20 or so that we actually watch. Of course if the FCC was to force the satellite companies to offer cafeteria-style channel selection they would raise the price on the individual channels enough that the price of those 20-odd channels we would keep would add up to the same as I now pay for 120 channels. IOW, you can't win when you play ball with the satellite or cable guys.

I love Spike! If not for it, I'd have no James Bond-a-thon, and no car crash video shows! Not to mention the best show ever, MXC!

I don't watch the crap on lifetimes. I have two DVRs and I watch the History channels, TLC, all the Discovery channels. I spend most of my time on my computer.

"Dish Network has done it again."

You bet, my wife tuned in tried to tune in last night and found nothing but a message on the screen.

First, no OLN, which is the only American TV outlet for A1GP.

But the real kicker is what's going to happen next.

I bought a HDTV and Dish HD receiver for Xmas. Turns out that my brand new, high tech, Dish 942 HDTV receiver is going to be obsolete in a couple of DAYS as Dish makes the tansition to a new encoding standard (MPEG4) which my receiver cannot decode nor can it be retro'd. Oh, it'll still work for a "while," but no NEW HDTV channels for me.

What's funny is, Dish told me (and several thouand others) in November 2005 that this MPEG-4 standard was "not promising" and wouldn't be implimented for the forseeable future. As late as two weeks ago they were telling people to go ahead and buy this $700 piece of HDTV history because it could be "upgraded." In fact, you can still buy this machine today from you local Dish retailer (whom I'm sure would be glad to sell it to you). But the Dish CSR's have been told to tell people calling Dish to buy it to WAIT for the new receiver.

Am I mad? You bet.

If I'm not offered this new receiver at a VERY LOW (like free) cost, me and my >$100 Satellite bill are waltzing on over to Di-rect TeeVee.

But not until, I've backed over my $700 mistake (as well as my other Dish HDTV receiver which hasn't worked right since jump) with my car several times, scooped up the remains, and shipped them to Mr. Ergen with a tube of Vaseline and explicit instructions.

I agree with you that it is a crooked game they play. Oh..You want Fox news...Well that is in the next package up. The networks actually force the cable and satellite operators to carry channels in the same way. If they want a certain channel then have to carry all the channels that network has. It is a real scam that is backed up by the congress so I guess there is not much we are going to be doing about it soon.

I wouldn't mind trading in a handful of DISH channels for more Angel channels.

I grow weary of scanning several hundred channels only to have less than two to five at any one time with anything with some redeemable value to watch.

I'll pass on the queer guy makeover, the queer guy remodeling, the SouthPark resorting to feces humor, the gay comedian news, another variation of building a 747 out of scrap Briggs&Stratton motors and Balsa wood and slalom ski landing skid workshop shows, and there are only so many Death Wish Bronson remakes,... I admit it, I must be spoiled.

Well then you can watch "Hooked on Drugs" for the 100th time. Those channels rarely have anything new either.

Okay, never been a 007 fan, but I have to admit I like MXC when I have caught it. The running on the big slippery rollers over muddy water is almost as good as the running across the lillypad stones. MXC offers equal opportunity for stupid men and women to compete.

I watched a movie on Lifetime once. Enjoyed it because it had one of my favorite actresses in it, and because the plot didn't totally suck.

One watchable show out of 18,583.......

That's a good ratio, isn't it????

As good as CBS anyway.

Wow..They really got you. Don't count on the upgrade. I have an older pre "Dish 500" receiver. They want cash from me to upgrade it...and they have changed there programing so that my receiver which only picks up from one satellite misses getting a bunch of channels. Direct TV does this upgrade for nothing more than another one year commitment to programing. They even give you the the 2nd dish for local channels. And this is not for new customers only. My friend had it done.

The choices are terrible. I could not even find one channel to watch today. At least lifetime has a lot of movies I have never seen. I just get tired of reruns...even on the history, Discovery, CourtTV type channels.

The Spike movie lineup kicks ass, but they air way too many commercials. ....more annoying than even TBS. During the Bond-a-thon the other night it seemed like 10 minutes of movie followed by 7 minutes of commericals, repeated again and again.
