Sorry for the way this looks................. but there are about two dozen Iron City beer cans in the sink, and I'm not feeling too well. ;-)

So, on to Denver for more "football moves" and other entertainment.

Forget about the call--you have the makings of a real NFL superstar in Troy Opal...opol...apola...this Troy guy.

I love the way he flies headlong over the field and he's not afraid to give up his body by stretching out, knowing he's gonna get hit by the ground or another player.

If it wasn't for the fact he plays for Putzberg, I might become a fan.

Did you watch the Panther v. Bears game?

There was a ruling that was the opposite of the Steelers game ruling and similar circumstances.

Involved a completion, fumble, recovery and touchdown run.

Guess the officials SWAG it . And makes me wonder about the honesty of the game.

If blowing a big lead and almost going to over-time constitutes 'getting your money's worth', well we sure did.

Better drink 'em while they're around. I hear they are going out of business.

In all fairness, I was responding to Invisible Church's brilliant comment #710. He gets credit for making the original statement. :D

BTW, thank you beyond the sea, for trying to keep the live thread about football, and not a singles bar.

In the After Game show, all the commentators said that they were glad the Steelers won because they got screwed on that call.

When The Bus fumbled that ball on the goal line, and the Colt started running it back, my wife's scream could have been mistaken for a new sound based weapon. I've never heard such a thing before. I thought only train or subway brakes could make such sounds.

I think all I could get out was a slow motion "N-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o!"

I don't know if Big Ben will win us any championships, but as far as I'm concerned I've already gotten my money's worth! :)

Speaking of quotes, am I the only one that remembers the on-field explanation of the reversal including that the ball was loose before Polamalu's knee knocked it out? Could someone that TiVo'ed the game double-check that?

I hope you've had a chance to recover. I didn't get to see the game as I was driving back from an out-of-town baby shower. That 4th quarter was wild and I'm mad I missed it.

Congratulations on the win and good luck next week in Denver. I'll be rooting for the Steelers!

The Steelers deserved to win that game and the ref should be retired for being so transparently empathetic to the Colts at home.

Homer Simpson wouldn't have made that call. Doh!

I was in a bind yesterday, because I like both the Colts and the Steelers. On the whole, I was pulling for the Colts in this one, because it was "their year". Of course, they sure didn't play like it.

So, all that said, I told Mrs. kevkrom at the time that the Colts will challenge the call, and lose the challenge, but there was a small chance that it would be overturned. The refs have been extremely strict on the ruling of going to the ground when catching the ball, that the ball cannot come loose at all. I still think it was a bad reversal, but based on the way the Redskins lucked out over Tamp Bay the previous week, it's not exactly that different than other calls made during the playoffs.

There was a similar reversal during the Bears/Panthers game that took away a legitimate TD from Peppers after a fumble recovery.

I suppose if he had dragged his right knee for 5 yards (like a drunken Ted Kennedy) and then fumbled and recovered his fumble it would have still been an incomplete pass according to the "Football Move" rule.

My wife asked, "What happened?" and I said the refs just made one up to keep the Colts in the game.

- A former Colts fan - Baltimore Colts that is.

League: Call on Polamalu interception was official's judgment

Jan. 16, 2006
CBS SportsLine.com wire reports

NEW YORK -- Referee Pete Morelli's decision to overturn an apparent interception by Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu late in his team's game Sunday in Indianapolis was a judgment call, the NFL said Monday.

It came with 5:26 left in Pittsburgh's 21-18 win over the Colts.

Polamalu made a diving catch. When he got up to run, he fumbled the ball, then recovered. Colts coach Tony Dungy challenged and Morelli ruled Polamalu had not completed the catch, so it was an incomplete pass.

About a dozen TV and scoreboard replays indicated otherwise.

The Colts kept the ball and went on to score, cutting Pittsburgh's lead to three points in a game that ended with a missed field goal by Indy's Mike Vanderjagt that could have sent it to overtime.

"The issue was whether he had possession. The ball came loose when he was getting up. Pete Morelli determined it wasn't a catch," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said. "That was his judgment."

Aiello added that the league's officiating department had not yet officially reviewed the call to determine if Morelli had made the right decision.

The NFL almost never makes public the result of its reviews, although it did three years ago, when supervisor of officials Mike Pereira said officials should have called pass interference against San Francisco on the final play of a wild-card game with the New York Giants. The correct call would have given New York a second chance to kick a game-winning field goal in a 39-38 loss.

Aiello had no comment on a remark by Pittsburgh's Joey Porter, who said of the Polamalu ruling:

"I know they wanted Indy to win this game; the whole world loves Peyton Manning. But come on, man, don't take the game away from us like that."

In the past, players who have made comments like that have been subject to fines.

Look on the bright side all you Colts fans...

At least pretty-boy Peyton Manning will be rested up for the Pro Bowl. I'm sure he'll put up some awesome passing stats.

I was just watching the news today where the NFL made a determination that the call was wrong, and could very well have been a game changer. I.E. they would have possibly replayed the game!!!
