BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — The "gay cowboy movie" "Brokeback Mountain" led the Golden Globes Monday night with four prizes, including best dramatic film and the directing honor for Ang Lee. As expected, it was a triumphant night for films dealing with homosexuality and transsexuality. Along with the victories for "Brokeback Mountain," acting honors went to Felicity Huffman in a gender-bending role as a man preparing for sex-change surgery in "Transamerica" and Philip Seymour Hoffman as gay author Truman Capote in "Capote." "I know as actors our job is usually to shed our skins, but I think as people our job is to become who we really are, and so I would like to salute the men and women who brave ostracism, alienation and a life lived on the margins to become who they really are," Huffman said.

My line -- I am always hopeful that the truth will prevail. However, in HW it is now more obvious than ever that they have an agenda to push, and not entertainment. You feed enough of the puke as acceptable, as is the case with TV also, and it becomes the norm.

The initial numbers may look good but over time I'm certain Narnia will still have a higher ROI. Broke Back will sink into the cheap bin at Wal-Mart while Narnia will continue with high DVD sales, there is just a larger market for that type of film.

George Clooney is a classless, slow-thinking, low IQ, low rated actor who has disgraced the likes of his Aunt, Rosemary, who really had the class. This low life is low rent and should have his butt kicked to the curb on garbage day.

Brokeback? IMDB estimates its budget at $14 million. With receipts of $32 million, that represents a return on investment ($32/$14) of $2.29 per dollar invested.

The problem is, that kind of gross isn't gonna keep the mega-multiplexes in business. They need large-grossing movies to keep their doors open.

...but the kids in your family, your friends kids, and their friends, do go to the movies. That is why you should care.

These awards mean nothing to anyone in the ticket-buying public. The homos and posers who were going to see this crap already have, and the Red State Americans who wouldn't see it at gunpoint aren't about to change their minds because a gang of poodle-strokers say it's great.

>>>I hope you're right when all the dust settles, but if I were an investor who didn't care about content, Brokeback provides a far better return on investment than Narnia.

With a buget of about $5 million for Hostel and a box office take so far of 36.8 million, it appears slasher flicks are where the real money is.

"How could it have gotten the Golden Globes when it doesn't have any globes in it?"

Not true. Pamela Anderson was one of the presenters.

As pointed out above "Brokeback" is turning a tidy profit, not for nothing but I'd imagine gay men are a sought after box office segment. Unlike families who have schoolnights, differing tastes and tight budgets, gay men are social spenders who probably find it much easier to go out than your typical mom and minivan types. I wont be seeing this movie, heck I havent been to the megaplex since the last Star Wars. I'm one of those boring breeders with 3 kids under the age of four, if it wasnt for on demand movies I'd hardly give Hollywood a red cent.

Its worth noting that "Brokeback Mountain" is a big hit in part to all of the free advertising conservative culture warriors have given it. Thus far I've only seen one actual ad for the movie (on cartoon network adult swim) but I've heard about it non-stop on talk radio, 24 hour news and the blog world.

I think your using fuzzy math. Using your numbers, look at the profit; Narnia = $83 million, Brokeback Mountain = $18 million.

Hollywood is nothing but a huge circle jerk. These are the same kinds of people that gave a completely disgraced Dan Rather an award after he was forced to resign.

you are right to a point, but I would propose not going to the movie theater all together...

my wife and I do rent movies, but virtually never go to the theater.

I haven't gone to the movies in at least ten years. Don't expect to be going again.

Don't own a television anymore, either.
