I saw a headline yesterday that BB Mtn was number one. Who to believe???
I recently rented a movie and it had previews for Brokeback. I tried to keep an open mind and watch them, I really did... but it just looked ... stupid. Melodramatic music, hokey accents, just... awkward and silly. I finally fast forwarded.
"They say don't go....on Brokeback Mountain.....if you're a-lookin'....for a wife...."
"Melodramatic music"
The music is pretty awful. I watched the trailer on the 'puter, I wanted to hear any dialogue, but I could barely make out a word. I hope the music isn't so LOUD in the actual movie.
Interestingly enought the Tues/Wed total were estimated! So we don't even know if it was ever No 1
They were projecting that it had the best box office, but that was only for Monday and Tuesday when numbers aren't that big.
I wonder when the education council will authorize it to be shown in public schools?
You mean DEMAND that it be shown in schools.
Right before your employer is forced to show it to you as part of Sexual Harrassment and anti-discrimination training.
"I heard it compared with Gone With the Wind and after I saw the previews I thought "Oh, they meant that literally!"
LOL! I don't think GWTW has anything to worry about. I am going to watch this silly movie at some point, I've decided that. For one thing that Heath Ledger (sp?) must be pretty Val Kilmer great in it, since all the reviews praise him, and I've mostly been reading the ones decrying the movie as awful propaganda, etc. For the second reason, I'm curious to see that gal who was in Dawson's Creek (I think she's ledger's wife or gfriend in real life), she's supposed to give a surprisingly good performance, but I always thought she showed good promise in Dawson's. My daughter loved that show, I think I saw all but maybe one or two episodes.
I've really always wanted to see "The Ice Storm", I guess maybe I'll double bill these two one day in the future.
How is BM (think about it) #4 when it earned the same amount as the red riding hood cartoon? Why isn't it #5 and Hoodwinked #4?
The "Ice Storm" was pretty interesting. I kind of liked it.
Because of rounding. Brokeback Mountain is actually estimated at $2,160,000 but the figure above is rounded down to $2,100,000 which makes it look the same as Hoodwinked.
This $2.16 million estimate, fwiw, puts BM on track for $7.94 million on the weekend, which is actually above most projections.
When Aniston's latest bomb made $7-8M in its first (?) weekend, it was called a bomb. Of course, it may have had a wider release than BM, but still. I read one critic who said BM would be lucky to make $50M all told.
If you mean Rumor Has It, that opened in 2,815 theaters.
Unless there's a major downturn in BM's PTA within the next week it won't have any problem making $50 million domestic.
Underworld was a very good movie. I'm waiting for the third, God willing.
