Actor Chris Penn Found Dead at Residence

By PAUL CHAVEZ, Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES - Actor Chris Penn, brother of Sean Penn, was found dead Tuesday at his condominium near the beach in Santa Monica, police said.

Police said they discovered the 40-year-old actor's body around 4 p.m. Lt. Frank Fabrega said there were no obvious signs of foul play.

Sean Penn's publicist, Mara Buxbaum, issued a statement saying that "the Penn family would appreciate the media's respect of their privacy during this difficult time."

Chris Penn's body was found inside the four-story condominium complex after police were called by someone from within the building, Fabrega said.

Penn's body was discovered in a bed inside the residence, located in a four-story condominium complex near the beach on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, said Capt. Ed Winter of the county coroner's office. Authorities were called to the condominium complex by Penn's housekeeper, Winter said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, authorities said.

Chris Penn's credits included "Mulholland Falls," "Rumble Fish," "All the Right Moves," "Footloose" and "Rush Hour." He also played Nice Guy Eddie Cabot in the 1992 Quentin Tarantino crime drama "Reservoir Dogs."

His late father, Leo Penn, directed television shows. His mother, Eileen Ryan, is an actress whose credits include "I Am Sam," "Magnolia" and "Parenthood." Another brother is musician Michael Penn.

Chris Penn's latest film, "The Darwin Awards," was scheduled to premiere Wednesday at the Sundance Film Festival.

Nicky Dimes was the light-haired cop that killed the bodyguard in the last shootout.

"I'll call you a hearse."

Not sure what happened to him along the way but 40 is too young to die of natural causes.

Normally I would agree but my best friend died at 36 from a blood clot to the lung. Natural causes can happen at young ages. But I agree with your sentiment that it is too young to die.

Normally true, but an exception is made for heavy smokers, several of which I knew that died very young. Add a weight problem and you've got a morbidly risky situation.

Chris Penn played any role given him very well. Funny and klutzy one minute. Vicious and mean the next. When his face was partially shadowed, Chris could be down right scary!

A Richard Widmark/Tommy Udo kind of tough guy.

I shall miss him.

Jack.

Agreed. And my friend was neither overweight or a smoker. She just had a blood clot that went to her lung. It happens.

The smoking & drinking are assumed considering where & how he lives (Hollywood, parties, etc.) Seeing how heavy he has become, diabetes enters as a real posibility. Hint, hint MEN, get a thorough physical early!

The guy did a lot of movies. First time I saw him was in " At Close Range" with his brother Sean and Christopher Walken.

"At Close Range" is a very underrated film, imo. A good friend of mine grew up in the Pennsylvania county where the movie took place. He told me the Christopher Walken character was named Bruce Johnston Sr. in real life (Google it) and he had a lot of inside stories about the family's shady dealings in his home town. Apparently, the Johnstons were a Dixie mafia family originally from Tennessee who settled in Chester County, PA and had a thriving burglary empire for years before the events of the movie took place.

And that goes for the skinny ones also. My hubby is not fat by any means but he still doesn't exercise regularly. Definitely something I've been encouraging him to do.

All of the Penn family, as well as Chris's friends, deserve our prayers and sympathy.

Of course. It is times like this, however, that one catches a glimpse of the nepotism and back-scratching that goes on in Hollywood. One should remember that next time they wonder why so many movies are so bad.

But, of course, they deserve our prayers and sympathy.

BUSH DID IT!!!!

Bush did it to get payback for Sean Penn being a critic...well at least that is how they see it at DU.
