Mozilla on Wednesday released an update for Firefox 1.5 that fixes several security flaws and makes other changes aimed at improving the open-source Web browser.
The update, Firefox version 1.5.0.1, patches a total of eight security vulnerabilities. One is deemed "critical" by Mozilla, four are rated "moderate" risk, and three are tagged "low" risk. The more serious flaws could let an attacker take over a system running a vulnerable version of Firefox, according to Mozilla's security alerts.
Among the issues tackled is a problem disclosed late last year, which concerns Web pages with an extremely long title that could cause Firefox to crash.
Security monitoring company Secunia rates the Firefox update "highly critical." Mozilla recommends that all users switch over to this latest version, according to the Firefox update release notes.
Aside from the security fixes, the update delivers improved stability and support for the Mac OS X platform, according to the release notes. Users of Firefox 1.5, first released last November, can upgrade to the new version using the automatic update feature, or it can be manually downloaded from a Mozilla site.
Firefox interrupted me last night for this update. It took 20 seconds.
I got my update today. I hope it stops the damn browser from crashing. I still like it better than Safari...
Sounds like they need to have those plugins ignore minor versions..
mine updated last night also.it was pretty quick and no problems after that
Will check it out tonight.
Do you know if you can change the maxver prior to the upgrade? That's something I might try tonight while testing.
I know what you are saying.
It updated when the wife was on the computer. Instead of getting me, she went ahead and rebooted the machine. THEN, since Mozilla updated, the firewall asked to allow it through. She hit no and didn't tell me about this until this morning :)
grrrrr....
i'm really loving opera these days. no crash here.(smiles)
Strange behavior. Mine updated, then updated a couple of themes, then updated several extensions. The whole process including restart took under a minute.
As far as I know you can change it anytime. An increase in version won't bollix up anything during normal running of FF.
Arrrrghh!! That's EXACTLY what happened to me. I was in the cellar doing some soldering and I got the bellow, "Honey. Can you look at something on SAL?" (SAL is the name of the PC she was on.)
Don't know why but it always gives me a popup after the update saying all extensions have been disabled. Re-enabling does no good. They must be reinstalled. Some requiring new versions. But at least I know how to fix it easily now.
yeah..
it's ok.
I showed her what she did and how to fix it if she does it again :)
I did too and got my head handed to me...."I did NOT click on anything!"
LOL
she pretty much said that she just started clicking away at everything that popped up....
