Just want to ask a general question: what do you think Rick Warren at Saddleback Church is doing wrong?
I think he leaves himself vulnerable to moosebites too often.
Who? Where?
"Moosebites"?!
www.saddleback.com
I've discovered a couple threads on FreeRepublic about my Church which I found fascinating and was wondering if any of those people were on-line right now. That's all.
Do you have specific concerns?
Oh. "Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail" - good one.
No - I'm asking if anyone's on-line who does.
You should have posted this in the religion forum. Once it's seen by the usual "Warren is the Antichrist" suspects, your thread will go on forever.
I attended Saddleback for several years, and had no problem with Rick while I was there. Lately he's paying more attention to the world than his flock; I personally think he should turn the reins of the church over to his very able associate pastors and pursue his "One" campaign full time outside of the worship center.
Don't know Rick Warren but I know Rick was quite the hero in Casablanca.
You mean the Global P.E.A.C.E. plan instead of "ONE"? I didn't even know we had a FR religion forum - maybe I will go over there - thanks.
Yes, they're one and the same.
You'll find Warren has his defenders as well as a core of people who absolutely think he's the worst thing going. All I can tell you is form your own opinion, and good luck! :-)
You also might want to do a search on "warren" or "saddleback". You should find a bunch of older threads on the same topic there.
There are other things besides apples and grapes you know.
A moose bit my sister once...
Yes. Moosebites!! (shudder)
Is it required to have attended a service at Saddleback or can one assume that Warren accurately represents himself, and Saddleback, in his writings, interviews and associations?
I think Warren accurately represents himself, and Saddleback, in his writings - interviews can take things out of context - but I'd be happy to hear what you've got. As for guilt by association, there's a reason that's a logical fallacy, so why don't we start with the writings first?
What do darkness and light have in common (Warren consulting with Synagogue 3000 to increase synagogue worshippers with no mention of Christ)?
What do righteousness and wickedness have in common (Warren promoting Brennan Manning, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen and other false teachers/mystics on Pastors.com)?
What harmony is there between Christ and Belial (Warren's breakfast interview with Cho, including prayer and advice for America's pastors)?
Above questions based on 2 Cor. 6:14-18...in which we are supposed to be separate from these things.
Interviews can take things out of context...
Warren recently stated that fundamentalism, which he said is driven by fear, including Christian fundamentalism, is one of the biggest enemies of the 21st century...Was this taken out of context (The article can be found here on Freerepublic)?
In the same interview, Warren stated that the church can not succeed without the assistance of the government...Was this also taken out of context?
...so why don't we start with writings first?
In the Purpose Driven Church, Warren wrote that he firmly believes that anyone can be won to salvation in Christ by finding the key to their heart...by shaping the Gospel to meet their felt needs (felt needs, according to Warren, equals emotional needs - sense of belonging; feeling important; etc.).
Is this biblical?
Should the Gospel be shaped in any way?
Is the Gospel of Christ even related to the addressing of emotional needs or is it meant for the addressing of sin...Did Christ die for emotional needs or for sin?
