I agree about the Seahawks' clock management toward the end of the first half. That was ridiculous.

t's good to see an organization owned by a family of unpretentious Micks beat a flaming liberal zillionaire owner (Microsoft); 2) it's good to see the home of Iron City Beer defeat the liberal bastion of Starbucks and sushi.

The end justifies the means?

Steelers win*

* Worst officiating ever in a Superbowl.

Not fair. I started out rooting for the Steelers (AFC FOREVER!), but after the first couple of bad calls, I changed sides. If the Seabirds could have overcome the Steelers AND the officials, it would have been a great win.

Saw the replay, the ball did not cross the plane. The ref moved forward to place the ball for the next down and then changed to the touchdown signal.

The replay clearly shows Rothlesberger shoving the ball over the plane after he's down! And the look on his face was priceless. He KNEW!

I hope not!!! Rendall has to go!!!
Sorry your boys didn't get it done. The old "one play doesn't win or lose" fits......The time management at the end of the half was horrible. Not using Alexander enough and going back to D Jack. Along with the calls in the game didn't bode too well for the "Hawks!!!

I'm with you on this. I live on the east coast and had no preference at all about who won.

My husband bet on the Steelers and he was furious at the outcome.

We love sports and sportsmanship. This game was was decided by the refs.

Ball crossed the plane while he was in the air prior to contact with the Seattle defender. Now everyone saw Ben push the ball across when he was already down. I certainly can't believe that both the real-time call, and the review, were based on that move. Do you? So it perhaps it was based on what happened prior to that point in time.
I must be getting old arguing about this. Have a great day.

In the first three minutes of the game, I groaned because it appeared the refs weren't going to let them play and the game would be decided by penalties.

I had no dog in the fight.

" Ball crossed the plane while he was in the air prior to contact with the Seattle defender"

After seeing the slo-mow I`d have to agree. Once the Seattle defender hits him, the QB was pushed back. That much was obvious.

The reffing wasn`t the big story. The mistake ridden game played by the two teams were.

Was hoping for a great game, and the team I was rooting for won, BUT unfortunately it was not a great game. Other than a couple Big Plays here or there both teams played very poorly -- and the refs sucked bigtime.

That said - Congrats to the Steelers and the BUS! You did what you had to to win.

I'll get to the calls in a minute, but in a nutshell - even with the horrible refs -- the game was decided because of three things.

1. Seattle did nothing but grind it out - other than the interception there were no big plays ZERO.
2. Pittsburgh made the big play when it had too, and there is no dispute on the 75 yard run or the reverse-Pass by Randle El. Again they made the plays they had to to win.
3. Seattle time management was abysmal. Period.
4. Seattle did not bow up and stop Pittsburgh when it was crunch time in the 4th Period. They let Pittsburgh get 3 crucial first downs and run the clock.

Now on to the calls:
1. Pass interference - Sorry as soon as Jackson's arm was fully extended the flag was coming out no matter how light the contact. It has been called that way all year no matter what the whiney little QB and WR say (Young/Irvin). If they are close in battling the refs let it go, as soon as the arm extends they call it whether it is there or not. People can cry all they want, it has been clled that way in every game.
2. All the whining in the world means nothing - Big Ben crossed the plane, and even if he didn't there was not enough visual evidence to overturn it. It looked to me like he just got in before being hit. Had they called him down at the one inch line, it would not have been overturned either. But let's be real, does anyone in the world think that Seattle would have stopped 4th and 1 inch.
3. Holding on pass to Stevens - Pitty Pat call, but the lineman did have him collared and technically it was a hold. I would not have called it however, it was not blatant nor did it effect the outcome of the play.
4. Hasslebeck cut -- That one was pure Bullsh*t. bad bad bad bad call.
5. Hasslebeck fumble - rightfully overturned.

Anyway, the Seattle fans can say the "wuz robbed" and whine all they want -- the bottom line is Pittsburgh made the big plays when they had the opportunity and Seattle did not; and Seattle left at least 6-14 points on the field with thier terrible 2 minute time management.

As a Hawks fan, I must agree. Holmgren's strategy was horrendous (and that's giving him credit!)

His emphasis on Stevens in the over-the-middle routes, instead of using Jurevicius was bizarre. And he did not prepare his team for a big-play game -- how on earth could they get caught off-guard on that 75 yard play early in the second half, when they stuffed the run all day long?

Nope, Holmgren, great a coach as he is...allowed his team, which dominated the game, to lose badly. That's the only fault there is. The only place us Hawk fans should place it.

The refs didn't cause that soft Seattle secondary to bite on that flea flicker, the defense to let Parker run 75 yards untouched, or Hasselbecks' piss poor clock management - which was reminiscent of McNabbs' performance last year. If Seattle executes they beat Pittsburgh, plain and simple, despite those three calls. It was a lousy game all around.
