And after this year (especially the playoffs) there are LOTS of doubts... about their abilities to call a decent game.

As a 10 year soccer referee I understand the art. But the fact that at least three questionable judgement calls all went against the Seahawks and in favor of Pittsburgh raises questions about the ability of the referees.

Yes they maybe be professional. However the reason to have replay is there too make sure they make the right call. Based on the replay showed that rothlesburger didnt get across that line when he was downed. He only pushed the ball over when he was already down.
