Seattle coach laments having to ‘take on the guys in the striped shirts, too

DETROIT - No appreciation or consolation in Seattle for the Seahawks, at least not yet.

Nope, they were still stuck in frustration.

The post-Super Bowl parties went into early Monday morning as the Seahawks at least tried to celebrate their season, instead of their somber Sunday. Later, coach Mike Holmgren tried to refocus the team, momentarily, on what it had done and what it still may do.

(Snip) –

And the Seahawks were still stinging from a few officials’ calls that went against them, such as Darrell Jackson’s touchdown catch that was taken away by a penalty and a disputed TD run by Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger.

“We knew it was going to be tough going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Holmgren told the fans at Qwest Field. “I didn’t know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well.”

Holmgren has shown a poor side of his character here ......... and his clock management skills.

LOL!! Holmgren's just saying what every sportswriter and talk show host has been saying all day!!

It's not poor character to point out that the refs made calls that changed the course of the game.

If he gets fined, Seattle management will likely pay it.

Tagliabue is more worried about making sure the NFL doesn't let the owner of the Saints take them to a city where they'll actually appreciate them.

Yes I saw it. It's pretty hard for the guy who is carrying the ball to see whether he scored or not. On another thread here on FR it shows distinctly that at least half the ball was over (above) the goal line. So all that speculation is just stupid. (I'm not talking about you.)

"I didn’t know we were going to have to play the guys in the striped shirts as well."
No class whining LOSER!

I watched every "disputed" play on the HD Tivo except the "block in the back" and the only "bad" call against the squawks was the 15 yard penalty low block penalty, which meant nothing.

The squawks were out played, out coached and obviously out classed.

Thanks for the Sore/Loserman graphic. Not only is Seattle a bunch of crybabies, their logo has to be the ugliest in professional sports, even uglier than the old Tampa Bay dreamsicle uniforms.

Me, too. I miss the old days of the killer Dallas defense and Terry Bradshaw, the 49ers. It just ain't the same anymore.

This game was a disgrace - too many bad calls on the field, and they all went against the Seahawks -----

****

Wrong

sorry,i agree that the refs stunk...but what the Seahawks did was anything but a "fine game".

The Seahawks stunk up the place...and they were joined by the Steelers.

I dont have a dog in this one, but neither team really looked like a Champion team out there..both looked like a team in week two of the season.

I dont really feel bad for the hawks though, they blew too many opportunities to place the blame entirely on the refs...no matter how bad the refs were.

Hmmmm. One team comes in after having won three on the road to get to the SB. One team comes in after having won two at home to get to the SB. The SB is on the road. It was an NFC team against the AFC and it's a Seattle Team whose team name is BIRD THAT DOESN'T EXIST and is from a city that prides itself on lattes and the team colors include LIGHT BLUE against a team from a city that represents hard work, BLACK AND GOLD and black coffee no f**king cream. And Holmgren is taking shots at the refs.... ohhh plleeeaazzz

The horrendous officiating only tended to magnify Holmgren's terrible coaching performance.

Cowher outcoached Holmgren and led his team to victory.

The only thing I'll remember about the game is that Pittsburgh played up to its abilty, both the players and the coaches, and Holmgren and his players allowed the officials to be a factor.

And Seattle did get homered by the refs, no doubt about it.

Holmgren knows the sentiment in the country is with him. That's why he said it

That's a real stupid reason for Holmgren to say that, if that is true. But, it is probably not.

And all this overshadows Willie Parker's great record breaking run, as well as the Randle El to Hines Ward pass. Those with Ben's TD won the game. If the Seahawks receiver had not blatantly pushed off they would have had 7 more, but still not enough.

That all being said the refs were horrible, but that is not the Steelers fault. That hit by Hasselback was a great tackle, and NOT CLIPPING! He showed the sort of get up and go we all cheered Big Ben for having in "The Tackle" as Madden called it. So I agree the refs suck, but Holmgren is being an &$$ here.

I'll say this, I have no love for your Stealers, or the Sea Chickens, but yesterday's game ended my watching Pro Football for a long time to come, and I have a relative who is the starting QB for another team. The whole family has joined in encouraging him to leave the league ASAP

LOL!!!

I'm sure you're telling the truth, and my girl friend is Condi Rice and I told her to leave the Bush administration immediately.

ROFL!

Holgrem is one of the class acts of the league. He and his wife go on missions to foriegn countries every year to help people. His wife missed the game because she choose to be in Africa on missionary work. Name one NFL coach who has mentored more assistants and groomed more head coaches than Holgrem in the past decade.

To work so hard to go all the way to the superbowl, and then have a bunch of incompetent refs destroy any chance to compete fairly in the game was inexcusable.
Even a class act like Holgrem has a right to be utterly pissed off. The game was a complete discrace.

If those calls had gone against Pittsburgh, there would of been riots in both Detroit and Pittsburgh and half the city burned to the ground.

Gloat all you want about Seahawks whining, but if the tables were reversed, the Steelers fans and team would be acting 100 times worse.

"Holmgren knows the sentiment in the country is with him. That's why he said it." .......... That's all the more reason a class act wouldn't have to say it.

Right.
