On Friday's Hugh Hewitt show, Emmet the Unblinking eye made his Oscar predictions. (Emmet is the movie critic for the show.)

Best Picture:

Emmet predicted that CRASH will win, unlike Michael Medved. (Medved predicted that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will win)

I have seen MUNICH,BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, and CRASH. If I had an Oscar vote, I would vote for CRASH. But, I think that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN will win.

I thought that I would never watch BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. But, over time, I changed my mind. Even Laura Ingraham said that she watched it...Michael Medved said that it was worthy of an Oscar nomination...Somehow I managed to get through the infamous tent scene.

Both Hugh Hewitt and Emmet stated that CAPOTE and GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK were well-done...

Best Director:

Emmet picked Ang Lee. It will probably be Ang Lee. I would vote for Haggis.

I don't think that Ang Lee would make any anti-Bush comment though.

Best Actor:

Emmet picked Hoffman. He's probably right. I would vote for Phoenix. I must say that Ledger did a good job though.

Best Actress:

Emmet picked Reese Witherspoon...I would vote for Witherspoon. I think she will win.

Best supporting actor: Emmet picked Paul Giamatti. His theory is that, since he did not win anything for SIDEWAYS, he will win this year. I would vote for Giamatti. But, I think Gyllenhaal will win.

Best supporting actress: Emmet picked Rachel Weisz. In this category, I only saw Michelle W in action. I haven't seen others. Michelle W was good, but not great, in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. I think Weisz will probably win.

The real winners will be the people who don't watch Hollweird's annual exercise in self gratification.

This isn't meant as a slam in any way, but Broke Back Mountain will NEVER receive one cents worth of support from my household. That goes for a number of movies out this year.

Hollywierd has shot itself in the head as far as I am concerned. It's gotten to the point that I'm down to one or two movies a year in the theater. Most times there isn't anything my wife and I care to see.

I honestly enjoy going to the movies. I'm just not going to finance the trash that passes for entertainment these days.

Now I wait for the DVD if I want to see a movie unless it's a big draw. In that mannor we spend as few bucks on the trash movies as we possibly can.

I have only seen Munich and Crash. Munich wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I just wanted to go on the record as appreciating you posting this thread. It will give a number of people the chance to rant on the subject of today's movies. Have a thick skin and roll with the punches. LOL

Not bothering with Oscars this year. Hope "Walk The Line" wins its nominations, though...that was a great movie.

Brokeback will probably win a few including Best Picture, but for the first time in years I won't be watching. I've always enjoyed it too, but the program has deteriorated in recent times...in terms of their hosts too.

There were some good movies this year, none nominated. The ones I felt were worthy: Pride and Prejudice, Walk The Line, Cinderella Man, North Country, Memoirs of a Giesha, The Upside of Anger.

When the movie industry honors art and not a political agenda, then I'll care.

For those interested in current movies, let me give a BIG recommendation to see:

"The World's Fastest Indian." Starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.

I try to see most award nominees each year, and I predict this will be up for awards, next year.

A Brilliant and very enjoyable motion picture. Based on the true story of Burt Munro, a New Zealander that rode a very fast motorcycle.
