FR Folding@Home Project Update - We're in the Top 150 teams Worldwide! (A Tribute to Ronald Reagan)

OK, new thread for the next week, celebrating the first of many Million point producers – our very own Klutz_Dohanger!

First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 1011 processors and 305 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over 50 computers from GetLoaded.com, a trucking support website, all contributing while their owners ply our freeways keeping the nation moving.

We now have 57 members who have contributed at least 10,000 points each. Woo-Hoo!

Even more impressive, our team now boasts 225 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of folders for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!

Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page

On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 157. We will be in the Top 150 on Saturday!

As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:

Top 150 by March 30
Top 100 by the end of the May

We have 3,350,000 points so far and have folded over 20,000 WU. We now fold over a million points per month, each and every month! Fantastic!

Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.

Hey, Egon, would you ask your brother if there is any way to configure the Linux FAHconsole to use more memory?

I can ask him, but I doubt he's going to be able to offer anything.

From my reading of the FAH forums, I'm kinda remembering that the folding process is more a function of processor speed than of copious amounts of memory. I don't think it physically requires a lot of memory to do the actual folding.

BTW, thanks for the script and upload site. I finished implementing it with my current systems today, except for screwing up the name on one of them. Now I can see from my page that Scanner07 is being a bad, bad Scanner07!! I tried connecting via VNC through my VPN, but it refuses, so I'm guessing it's set to sleep, or someone turned it off, neither of which should happen. I'll whip it into shape in the morning.

My youngest will want to install my older son's old copy of rock raiders soon. Did you figure out why it blows up your folding work?

No, my "fix" has been to have him shut down FAH before he plays and then reboot when he is done. So far so good.

Turn me onto that monitor... got about 50 of them, that I'm constantly trying to chase down, and figure out where they went to... found one today that hadn't reported in since january. Sure would be nice to just call something up, and peg the lost, stolen, missing, or sleeping sheep instantly.

rather than freepmail, you can email the info and links to tlbradley@gmail.com

Thanks in advance.

I've got to do something to hold onto my slim lead here. :)

Did your server crash? I'm getting error messages every 30 minutes.

Irk!

You're not supposed to be getting error messages.

Woke up this morning and everyone was red. In their infinite wisdom, Qwest apparently decided to change my IP address at 0120 this morning.

The scripts I have set up to notify my DNS provider of the change don't seem to have worked. Working on it now.

I also need to adust the upload script not to throw an error. That's really not cool at all.

Give me a few minutes...

OK. The Linux god (my brother) has updated my DNS provider with the updated IP address. DNS caches should clear out within 60 minutes, and you guys should start seeing my server again. He's also looking into why they weren't automatically informed of the move.

That's one of the two problem cleared up.

The other one, I'm actually more embarrassed about: throwing errors in the upload script.

There is a fix in place in the script available from the help page. Any new people won't see this problem in the future.

For those of you that have the current script, you have two options:

- download the newer version of the script

- make a manual change to the script as described here: After line 291, in a blank line, place this command:

On Error Resume Next
You'll end up with a section looking like this...
    .....

   'data variables
Dim szData ' build string for uploading data

    On Error Resume Next

   'build upload data
    szData = "data="
    szData = szData & "" & m_szUSER_TEAM & ""
    ....
Save the script, and that's it.

I really apologize for the inconvenience.

Must Find More CPUs!!!!

You were scheduled to pass me a few days ago but I managed to get another cpu working and held off the inevitable until today.

I won't finish any WUs today but it looks like you'll end the day with 282 points. That'll be enough to put me under. What did you say?

Must Find More CPUs!!!!

Egon, those planned learning features in the script are just to get the unintelligentsia among us (like me) to discover that they can actually use a computer and program it.

How many folks have learned more about their system just by getting F@H running smoothly? Just as many as have learned HTML just to talk on FR.

I remember now why I loved assembly programming on an IBM 360 and have hated all other programming since then. If it's not hardwired then I just don't get it.
