Posted on 05/10/2006 8:55:45 AM PDT by EveningStar

Has anyone tried this yet? If so, what do you think of it? Can it replace Firefox?

No. I haven't tried either. I'm getting a new computer tomorrow. I'll probably install beta 2 then. I use Firefox right now, mainly because of security.

Well, my computer didn't like it and I had to uninstall and go back to 6.

I've tried it. It looks fine to me. I am one of those weirdos that tried Firefox and went back to IE.

The tabbed browing works just the way I would like it to. I don't think much of hiding the menus. That's a step into an unnecessary universe.

The only plugin I use is the google toolbar. It works fine with 7.

Not for me... I'm a diehard Firefox user. Been using it for years, since about version 0.5, when it was named Phoenix.

I don't plan to try it, except for in the work office. Firefox, I'm sure, will continue to come up with better ideas (that Microsoft will steal later on).

I tried the Beta and hated it.

It completely messed up Windows Media Player 10 -- no streaming audio/video.

Uninstalled it and went back to FireFox.

I feel fortunate as I am allowed to work in whatever environment suits me. I'm currently coding C/C++ using Eclipse or vi, running under a fairly recent Linux kernel.

I can pick and choose the softweare I want running on my machine.

Why would you put a new PC at risk - I'd try it on an old one first...

I'll wait to see how many systems it screws up first. The general rule is to wait for at least SP2 on any Microsoft product.

The other problem is that I test web apps, and this would replace my current IE for that. Maybe I'll crank it up in a VM when it starts to matter.

Nope. Firefox only. For that matter when I need to upgrade my primary system again it won't have windows on it at all.

I've tried it for about a week now. No major problem. It's not, IMO, a good replacement for Firefox. For example there's no open all in new tabs in the favorites (how I access the 30 or so blogs I read.) It's not as intuitive as Firefox.

"She who must be obeyed" is using it and has the same thoughts.
It is a big improvement over IE6, but has a steeper learning curve.
Regards.

Oops - I take back the part about no open all in new tabs; I just found it, It's a right click, not a left click like in Firefox.

I've been using IE7 this afternoon and have found a bug. When listing FR pings, it doesn't show visited posts in an alternate color.

I have it on my Windows partition.

More or less, it's IE6 glossed over nice 'n' pretty and has tabbed browsing. And it's just as unreliable.

I'd stick with Firefox or Opera personally.
