The Return of the Dixie Chicks (Bill O'Reilly)
Fox News (The O'Reilly Factor) ^ | May 10, 2006 | Bill O'Reilly

Three years ago at the beginning of the Iraq war, the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, Natalie Maines, told a concert crowd in London, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United Sates is from Texas." That statement set off a firestorm against the Chicks. Many Americans saw the quote as unpatriotic, especially in a time of war.

Subsequently, Miss Maines apologized for the tone of her remarks, but stands by her opposition to the Bush administration. Now the Dixie Chicks have a new CD which some stations will not play the lead single from, a song that says the Chicks aren't ready to back down from anything. It's a pretty good song. There is no reason not to play it. At a Time magazine event last night, I ran into Natalie Maines, who is not exactly my No. 1 fan. She chided me for predicting on this program that the new CD she has out would sell just two million units, which is pretty good these days. We had a discussion about it a few weeks ago. She saw the show.

I still don't buy the whole 'death threat' thing - I have read somewhere that the sheriff's office where Natalie Maines lives has never heard from them concerning it.

"Taking the Long Way", the new Dixie Chicks album is being released May 23. They'll start the morning show route next week and will be performing on Good Morning America. 60 Minutes is scheduled to run a story on them as well. Get ready for another few weeks of Natalie putting herself back up on the cross.

"You have a right to reject her beliefs and not to buy her stuff. But to punish her further is not in the spirit of America."

How exactly is she being punished further?

This Dixie Chicks thing infuriates me. First off, this girl says something overseas. These people want freedom without consequences. They weren't thrown into jail, hauled off in the dead of night. The market spoke. NOW, they come back. You'd think they'd just move on. But NOOOO...they play the VICTIMS in this whole scenario. I was listening to the Country channel on my Sirius radio yesterday and I almost threw up. They had phone calls from people who had been mad at the Dixie Chicks, but now agree with them. I used to like the Dixie Chicks, and if they had just let the whole thing go, I may have started listening to them again. But now, they're actually USING the controversy for their comeback. I think it's despicable. By the way, how is their new CD doing?

Never threaten a celebrity with death. They should be threatened with obscurity, which to a celebrity is ten times worse.

This ladies should thank God that they've made as much dough as they have with a minimum of talent. I've heard squeaky doors with better voices. Ugh.

Tired old liberals use the "right-winger death threat" thing to get on the news in an attempt to get news coverage and revive their sagging carreers.

I saw a haggard Susan Surandon (? the old lady that was in Bull Durham) to that other try to claim it the other day.

Like anyone cares enough to kill her, she's such a nobody

Now the Dixie Chicks have a new CD which some stations will not play the lead single from...

Our local country station had a phone-in and website survey asking if the station should continue to boycott the Dixie Twits music. By an overwhelming majority, (6 to 1) the vote was to continue the boycott. Nuff said!

IF they were across from my office giving a free concert...and they even offered to limo me there with a front row seat...and they, the chicks, carried me to my seat and they performed in the nude...I still wouldn't go see them...

PS-hmmmmmm (pondering) Well, if they performed in the nude and I had a front row seat, then I might go.

Yes, liberals confuse censorship with the public HAVING to listen to their tripe --- It's all about them, after all.

They don't understand they are free to say anything they want. We just don't have to care or listen.
