UPI story:MIAMI, May 14 (UPI) -- Florida wildlife officials may have killed an alligator responsible for the death of a 28-year-old jogger in Miami.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials had set traps since the dismembered body of Yovy Suarez Jimenez was found in a canal Wednesday.

They said Saturday a 9 ½-foot-long gator was found and killed near where Jimenez' body was found.

Two human arms were found in the gator's stomach but haven't been confirmed as those belonging to the Jimenez, a college student from Davie, Fla., and an aspiring model, CNN reports.

"We strongly suspect this is the alligator," said state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman Dani Moschella. Test results are due back Monday.

Jimenez went missing Tuesday night while she was jogging alongside the canal.

Broward County Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper said he thinks the gator attacked Jimenez and dragged her into the canal but killed her before she drowned.

She was the 18th human victim of Florida alligators since 1948.

I am always very careful whenever I'm around lakes and canals in Florida. This was a dreadful, horrible attack...that poor woman.

Yep, like I said, that's why I don't jog anymore.

Even in Michigan. The wolverines are as nasty as alligators.

When I was a kid we used to swim in canals, lakes and rock quarries all over Dade, Monroe and Collier Counties in S. Fla. In 8 years there was only one time where a pair of gators acted aggressive towards us and we didn't get in the water.

The past 35 years of protected status on these reptiles has caused them to proliferate to the point of losing fear of man by occupying habitat in urban areas. There needs to be a purging and price drop in alligator skin boots/handbags for a while to get this situation under control.

"Even in Michigan. The wolverines are as nasty as alligators."

Isn't that a seasonal problem that happens mostly in the fall?

I think the point was that most gator victims die of drowning, not from injuries sustained from the alligator.

This gator evidently killed on land her before it drug her into the water...which is very unusual. Most gators attack from the water and pull their victim back into the water without ever leaving the water.
