I need to purchase a new vehicle. I need questions answered so I can narrow down my choice. Is there a site or a board that does this? I have not found anything yet.

Do they have a decision tree? I need to figure out what would be a rugged smaller long lasting four wheel drive with better gas milage as my present 8 passenger moves toward 200K

You may do best to visit here for the actual cost per mile of ownership, as it includes repair, insurance, and fuel costs in its recommendation.

Edmunds.com has discussion boards organized by make and vehicle, then broken down by discussion on price, real world mileage, repair concerns, reviews, comparisons with similar vehicles, etc.

I have used information suppplied by Fighting Chance to purchase two cars and I highly recommend them.

For a reasonable charge, they will send you very helpful financial info on the car you're buying.

Both times I used them, the surprised dealers asked where I had learned about some of the secret rebates they were getting from the manufacturers.

Actually, when I was ready to buy a specific car, I presented a spreadsheet to the dealer showing him exactly what he paid for the car, told him I'd give him $100 profit, and it was accepted on the spot. No haggling. And I know I got an excellent deal.

Note that I have no connection with Fighting Chance other than being a very satisfied past and future customer.

www.myproductadvisor.com is on the cartalk website. Answered all my questions except one.

Are small suvs built like cars underneath or like trucks?

On my unpaved road I need truck durability and I am looking for smaller now that the children are growing up.

Glad it does the job. I normally go there for electronics but I knew they had cars up there.

The 4Runner has a softer suspension than a truck so it's a nice ride off road.

I haven't taken mine rock stepping if that is what you mean. But it's pleanty rugged for getting to and from remote fishing lakes and hang gliding sites. I wouldn't use one to break trail but it's fine if it looks like there at least used to be a road there. ;-)

If you want to break trail, get a Land Cruiser.

BTW: What kind of mileage are you looking for?

My 4Runner with the V8 gets about 21mpg on the highway at 65-70mph.

You say you're coming off an 8 passenger vehicle...the 4 Runner seats 5 comfortably. If you want more, go to a Sequoia

Advice...
Don't go to sites featuring recent purchasers of cars you are truly interested in.

New buyers are loathe to admit they screwed up, and their new cars will always be the best thing since sliced bread...

The occasional honest commenter will be drowned out.
