Judge Sentences Cat to Life Indoors for Avon-Lady Ambush

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A state judge spared the life of alleged neighbor-assaulter Lewis the cat on Tuesday, but ordered that he remain inside his owner's Fairfield home at all times.

"There are no exceptions. None," said Judge Patrick Carroll, who also granted accelerated rehabilitation to Lewis' owner, Ruth Cisero. That means her record will be expunged if she successfully completes two years of probation.

Cisero had faced a charge of reckless endangerment because neighbors complained that the cat's long claws and stealth have allowed it to attack at least a half-dozen people and ambush the Avon lady as she was getting out of her car.

HairOfTheDog runs the Doggie Ping List. As for the Kitty Ping List, you're added.

What breed is that cat in the graphic please?

It has the markings and ruff of a bi-color ragdoll...but I've never heard or seen one in black and white.

Well trained and behaved dogs can be abused, sure.
Picture the dogs as Americans. Imagine the cats are muslims.
When push comes to shove it is kitty lunch time...

Heck I can do better than that.

Picture the dogs as Mexicans. Imagine the cat as uh.....

... forget it. ;^)

I've seen a large housecat literally take apart a Rottweiler that was trying to kill it. Some of them can become furry buzzsaws if provoked. (Yes, the cat won - the dog died from its wounds later).

It's not the size of the cat in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the cat, to borrow a phrase.

Good point, but that's simply irresponsible dog ownership.

My father bred and trained dogs when I was a child.
I have seen firsthand how a dog can be properly trained not to howl/bark at every little thing, and also to not venture out of the yard.

I'm not a fan of the aggressive breeds like pit bulls, Rottweilers, etc., either.

That's true. I grew up in a rural area and learned to love both dogs and cats. I just like to stick up for the underdog, or undercat in this case. Cats seem to attract a lot of negativity that I don't understand. They're different from dogs but they're just as great in their own way.

Depending on the jurisdiction, cats often do have the legal right to roam free if they are spayed/neutered and have a current rabies vaccination. I made sure when I bought my house that the local laws allowed cats to roam free.

How special for those jurisdictions.
I was aware of those laws, but I knew my comment #12 would strike a nerve. :)

That's why we use Havahart traps on our family farm...a stray animal's rights stop at our property line.
Same goes for dogs.

My attitude is simple: pet owners should keep their animals out of my yard and off our farm and we'll get along fine.

Cordially,
CD

Also check HOA/ROA rules. It may be legal according to the law, but not according to the homeowner's association. I'm still fuzzy as to how our cop neighbor thinks he can fine us for our little kitties outside, since it's legal, but against ROA rules. Still, if he complained enough the ROA would fine us anyway, so our kitties are getting fat inside. :(

There's not enough money in the world to induce me to buy a home that falls under the authority of any homeowners' association or similar abomination.

Wow, my kind of cat. Love the long hair.

Our cat chases the neighbor's dog off our property. He thinks he is a watch cat. Got him from the SPCA, he had already been declawed but that does not stop him.

Yup, I know that now. As soon as makes sense, we will hopefully move to a neighborhood with no ROA/HOA. Unfortunately, in most of the places we want to live, there is almost exclusively ROAs/HOAs and the neighborhoods without are mostly ****-holes. I'm thinking we should buy land and build our own if we really care.
