Few big-screen franchises have fallen so far or so fast as Superman, who has been absent from multiplexes for nearly two decades. Superman Returns provides a most satisfying resurrection, especially for those who have always regarded the Superman story as a Christ allegory.
The first two Christopher Reeve films were big hits with critics and the public in 1978 and 1981. But its hard to find anyone with a kind word for Superman III (1983) or Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987), both of which were so out to lunch that Superman retreated to television with Smallville, Superboy, an animated series, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Throughout the 1990s, and especially after Reeve had a paralyzing and ultimately lethal accident, it looked like television was where the franchise would stay. It certainly did in the 1950s, when George Reeves played the Man of Steel on a weekly basis.

Oh, brother.
I could care less about the "franchise". No one ever considers the comic books.
That said. Is it a good film?
And does it film the origin story yet AGAIN?
Why is it none of the Bond films showed how James Bond or ANY of the villians got where they were in life?
James Bond was ALWAYS James Bond. Goldfinger, Pussy Galore, Blofield, et al were ALWAYS bad guys.
Too much background SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWS these films down. It's not important. Too much plot getting in the way of the story.
Just looking at the picture they posted shows it's gonna be a boring film. I like how Clint Eastwood does it at the end of Heartbreak Ridge. He sees his woman, she smiles, they walk off together. Doe he kiss her? No! Because Clint doesn't do those pansy roles that Tobey Maguire and the like would do.
Truth, Justice and the Rest of that Stuff?? Yuck!
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
I just saw it today and this was an excellent movie, I consider it better than even the first one.
