The Dragonflies Lair~Thread XXIX

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

"That would be utopia."

True. It is pretty much "pie in the sky" idealism, but the song actually touched a string in my soul. Probably has to do with the "nobody dies" line. When you see young people, full of potential, get killed by drunken idiots, the mourning probably never disappears. Somewhere in the utopian part of your brain, you wish that nobody had to die.

So true.

I recently lost my sister-in-law, she was a good woman who loved my eldest brother well. He died on the operating table in 2001, she was devastated by his passing.

I totally believe they are now together.

never truly long parted
even by some measure of time
for what is forged under God’s eye

"I totally believe they are now together."

That is the comfort to those who know Jesus. In fact the Apostle Paul uses "this old house" analogy to proclaim that to be absent in the body (dead) is to be present with the Lord.

2Corintians 5:1 ¶ For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

4 For we that are in [this] tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing [is] God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

6 Therefore [we are] always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8 We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

This was also talked about in Thesalonians...

1Th 4:13 ¶ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

The Apostle wasn't saying not to be sad, as when someone leaves on a trip, but don't mourn as though you have no hope. We use the word hope alittle differently today, then when it was penned in Thessalonians. The Greek word "elpis" means an expectation of good.

While we can not know completely, the hearts of others, concerning their relation with God, we ourselves can have assurance of our own salvation.

1John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; [and] he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I appologize if my post distracts from the beauty of your Lair. I really didn't intend on preaching. I both find comfort in the Bible and I find beauty in the style in which alot of it is written. I only hope that some of this may ease some of your sorrow.

Sincerely

Well there's a big downpour going on, so it's a great time to upload some more pics! (takes a bit of pasting and clicking to get them all uploaded and presented!). (if you want to see the previous set of pictures, follow the 'reply' to this message, I'm going to link all pictures as replies to the original picture post)

So here goes:

1. Temple porch near the Big Buddha. This is the porch of the temple that is beside the Big Buddha. You can see BB there in the distance.

2. The Big Buddha. Here is the Big Buddha in Bangkok. He's rather large isn't he? See the people at his feet? There's also the famous reclining Buddha, but I didn't have time to go and see him. Maybe next time I'm in Bangkok. That big contraption above his head is a stylized umbrella. Such umbrellas have regal and religious significance around South East Asia and parts of India.

3. Ceramic People at the Good Luck Temple. Here is an eye catching little piece of ceramic people standing around a water pot. Just jumped out at me because it's only about 4 feet tall and I suddenly turned and thought I saw little people standing there! I don't know anything about its history or significance.

4. Funeral Cart. Ashes to ashes, dust to dragons. This appears to be a cart for carrying bodies. What a way to go!

5. Queen's Birthday Preparations. That weekend was the Queen's birthday. Here they are preparing all the festivities, but alas, I was up in the north of the country before they had the party! This area is huge, I could have walked backwards about 5 times the distance you see to the stage. Behind the stage is the special ceremonial city owned by the King, it has loads of exotic buildings in it, but they wouldn't let me come in because I was wearing shorts (have to wear long pants). Oh well, something to look forward to next time!

Public Relations: A Poem for the Fauxtogs

“Just answer the question please.”

“We have adapted our message to the reflect the reality of”—

“Isn’t it a fact you screwed the public?”

“That’s absurd, we were not aware that our pictures
were doctored, or that our reporters had diplomas

“Speaking of tricks, isn’t it true that you lied
with a straight face, showed us the distraught face
of the enemy teddy bears tossed on the rubble?”

“Photography is artistry! How dare you”—

“A Pulitzer is not an Emmy, or hadn’t you heard?
And why do your editors salivate like admen,
your reporters, like screenwriters and madmen?”

“Look here, we’re the Press, we do the asking around here!”

“Then why are you so offended by questions?”

“We give you all the news that we see fit to print:
it is ours to expose, and yours to lick.”

“Why have you twisted the rules of ethics,
and violated the public’s trust?
Why have you raped in the Name of Truth,
and hidden behind your cameras and pens?”

“You are the public; you are unfit to judge us!
We are the professional scribes and Pharisees-
you are the rabble, the dumb, the unclean!
Ours is the job to make you see.”

“Sorry, if we had wanted blind guides
we’d seek professors;
if we had wanted twisted facts
we’d hire lawyers.
We didn’t solicit your news

We do not believe your immoral

“But we mold opinions,
and we can make wars!
We manufacture

“You’re nothing but pimps;
and we ain’t your whores;
we'er not bending over,

“Look here, we are the Masters

We have more Power

“And we are the Public
you once screwed,
we were the slaves,
but now we’re the Free.”

“You’ll never get away with
this First Amendment mumbo jumbo—
we own more minds than you can count.
We’ll find laws to deal with you.”

“We own guns and we have brains;
We only succumb to the Higher Laws.”

“But We are the Fourth Estate!”

“And we are your worst fifth column…

Great photos, I haven't been to this Wat for ages. I have a photo of a pair of Karen girls walking near the building the funeral cart is being decorated for the birthday celebration. At that time (several years ago, they had not yet paved the grounds. The oldest part of the Wat was a sacred well (women not admitted for some reason). I greatly enjoy your photos.
