Thomas McPherson, a Millvale resident and unsuccessful Republican mayoral candidate in the borough last year, was arrested yesterday on charges that he threatened a minority family moving into a residence next door to his house.
Mr. McPherson, 46, of Sample Street, was charged with ethnic intimidation, simple assault, terroristic threats and disorderly conduct.
Police said after words were exchanged between Mr. McPherson and members of the family, Mr. McPherson went inside his house and came back out with a gun in its holster strapped on his body. Police said he pulled the gun half-way out at one point in the confrontation.
Mr. McPherson was in the Allegheny County Jail last night awaiting arraignment.

Libel comes so easily to you, doesn't it, MM?
Getting pretty desperate, eh? LOL
You forgot pervert, drug-addict, embezzler, redneck, drunk and a few hundred other adjectives they've tarred us with, M.
Well, now, wasn't that a big fish? No doubt he now qualifies to join the 'Rat party.
Traficant, Byrd, Stark, Moran, McKinney...
The Post-Gazette was Number Two in circulation to The Pittsburgh Press (a Scripps-Howard paper, which was a bit liberal, but not terribly so, and that made it very, very conservative compared to the Post-Gazette) until the Teamsters' Union put the Press out of business. For a time, the Post-Gazette was the only metropolitan-wide newspaper in the Pittsburgh area. Now, it is being challenged by The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a conservative paper.
You know, I have a funny (in a tragic sort of way) but true story of a time when we lived in Pittsburgh PA--I'm guessing Millvale is in PA since this story appeared in the Gazette. We loved Pgh, and this was about the only incident that marred our stay there.
We moved into a row house that seemed pretty pleasant, and the neighborhood seemed fine, neat yards, the houses well-kept, and so on. However, we'd only been there about a month when threatening notes started appearing on our porch. ("Get out" "Go home" "We don't need your kind here") Our next door neighbors, an elderly couple, told us they were coming from their neighbor on the other side, and angry amd mean black man who beat his wife, and once broke our elderly neighbor's arm (and did some jail time for it). Seems we got the apartment he wanted for one of his friends.
So let me tell you something, Ms. Liberal, Republican-hating, name-calling shill: racism comes in all flavors and colors. So do jailbirds.
LMAO...That's a lame Alan Colmes line MM.
Is there a liberal like you that isn't an unstable, sociopathic, compulsive liar?
Jeff Habay, Ernie Preate, Oliver North, Jack Abramoff, Tom Delay... the list is endless, isn't it?
Not true. The P-G supports about half as many R's as Democrats. With the local Republican Party sporting racists like McPherson and jailbirds like recently convicted State Rep. Jeff Habay and the national party still tainted by Abramoff bribes, it's a wonder the P-G ever finds a suitable R to endorse here in PA.
Nonsense and you know it.
Well well, the drooling moron has returned. Is there a single Demagogic Party politician or party member who is not a rapist, traitor, racist, thief, drug addict, pedophile, murderer, and/or raving imbecile?
McKinney, Byrd, and the Clintons (both of them) all remain unindicted, contrary to far-fetched rumors spread by their feeble-minded political opponents. For every 10,000 rumors of corruption and illegality among members of the Democratic party, there are about 0.001 indictments and practically no convictions. For example not a single political appointee of President Clinton was indicted for an alleged crime committed in office. In contrast dozens of Bush administration Republicans have been convicted for their felonies and Scooter Libby hasn't even been tried yet.
i had to join this site just to reply here. see i live in millvale...someone asked earlier, yes it is in pa. millvale lies on the north side of the allegheny river, and it borders the city of pittsburgh.
this mcpherson character is just that. for the past few years he hung a confederate flag in his back window. for his campaign, he hand painted some signs and hung them around town with many misspellings. his election day signs were icing on the cake of this unforgettable character. with two unforgettable additions. in the two main entrances into town, he erected 5 to 6 foot tall signs reading "welcome to millvale, where we don't care and it shows. vote for change."
so it was no surprise of the trouncing that he took when running against jim burn for the mayoral position. millvale is a working man's democratic stronghold, not to be confused with liberal...that coupled with mc pherson's bumbling campaign was really an embarassment for the local republicans.
