Re: #3
Scarlett Johansson has hands. I hadn't noticed. You learn something new here every day.
Just curious, but what hand do you shoot pool, play darts, throw a baseball, etc., with or does it all depend.

Only the left handed are in their right minds. heh heh heh
I don't see any Muslims on your lists. ;)
I favor the right inasmuch I write with my right hand. But most activities, I'm like the cartoon character that uses both hands with equal skill. But when I hurt my right hand I can use the other side as if I favored my left.
My brain functions seem to indicate ambidextrousness (is that a word?) as well. I took a test and my brain indicated left brained (right hand) 51% and right brained (left hand) 49% which is interesting given that the test was meant to prove what was the real side one favored and not taught to favor.
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous, is the way I heard it.
A southpaw conservative can be a lefty AND a righty! (Am
a righty myself in both dexterity and politics)
Bill Clinton is also left handed.
In latin, the word for left handed is sinestrum, meaning sinister. It was not possible to fight in rank & file with the shield & sword switched.
"I've been branded communist because I'm left handed.
That's the hand you use......well never mind."
Paul Simon
Some left handed people were forced to learn how to write right-handed, etc.
left-handed compliment="A compliment with two meanings, one of which is unflattering to the receiver" (New Dict. of Cultural
Literacy)
In addition to "sinistrum" = "left handed", I understand
"dexterity" refers to the ability to handle things well--and that comes from "dexter" or "right (handed)". Left-handed
people might object to that implication, but that's where the word came from, IIRC.
Once I saw in a book a picture of an eagle (kind of like the one on the great seal of the US) and when it had its head turned to the right it said "dexter" and to the left,
"sinister"...(btw when I was in Washington DC this past week I learned that on the great seal, the eagle's head was originally turned toward the arrows of war but FDR decided
to switch the head around so it pointed to the olive branch of peace. Peace is the ultimate goal...but one which sometimes can only be obtained through war...)
Did you notice that today is also Fidel's birthday?
And he is lefthanded too!
I smell a rat!
And lefties are way overrepresented in architecture & design. I dated a neurosurgeon for a while, and he had me do all these weird problem-solving exercises putting together matchsticks & such to test my spatial abilities -I passed with flying colors, he said ;-).The right side of the brain (which, dictated by the bilateral asymmetry of the brain, is our dominant one) is the one that controls visual & spatial perception. And supposedly emotion. That's why we are all the creative geniuses & righties are such mind-numbing bores!
Happy Left-Handers Day! :-) Thanks for the post, so_cal parrot!
