"how come they couldn't get a restraining order on Karr or something to keep the ceremony from taking place?" A better question is, why did they agree to it. She was 13! Even in Alabama 22 years ago, she couldn't have married at 13 without her parents' consent.

That's what I can't figure out. If I wanted to do something at 13 and my parents didn't want me to do, my parents got their way every time.
