Fellow FReepers, it's been a long time since I've posted a vanity but there's been something that's been sticking in my craw for a while. I happened to pass by the "Daily Show" where the author of "Fiasco" was chatting up with Jon Stewart about the failures of our armed forces in Iraq.

We are blessed with having a membership with a wide background of disciplines to set up some sort of rapid response force to battle this material. Graphic artists, analysts, writers, sales people we MUST maintain our majority.

Have you been paying any attention at all to "media credibility ratings"?
Wasted vanity, IMHO.
As if Jon Stewart and the "daily show" rated any attention from FReepers.
What possessed you to watch it?

the author/book Fiasco just caught my attention, I listened to it for about a minute and half. RE: Credibility ratings, this is where many young folk get their brains drained.

INcluding the soldier who got the letter from the punk who pretended he was a kid, saying he hoped he would die in Iraq.

Much agree. Have tried to urge such things off and on for years. Seems like unless there's a crucial case that's almost already lost, insufficient numbers get energized sufficiently to do much.

The DC chapter is an exception. Some others around the country do local activism sacrificially and valiantly.

But the sort of thing you're advocating, as I understand, is long overdue.

Certainly it is vitally needed to INSURE that Bw*tch Shrillery Antoinette de Fosterizer de Marx de Machiavelli never gets close to the White House again.

The talent here is definitely an untapped resource. Considering the level of people who have made face time from the other side on TV and commenting as experts, the folks here would blow them away. Think of those code pink skanks or david corn (great Hitchens' article re:Plame this week) or ellis hennican and what they portray to the American people with their distortions, the quality of the people we could bring forward would be wonderful and make a better impression.

I don't know if I'm representing the full idea of what I mean sort of a press release, speaker's bureau, commentary operation.

I think there are LOTS of robust possibilities including those you specifically mention. Perhaps we could query for those who are serioiusly interested to do some brainstorming on this thread as to the possibilities and then rank them in terms of priority etc.???

I believe the upcomping congressional elections could work as a "dry run" and debugging process. I personally don't subscribe to the wipe-out many are predicting for this election, color me naive or just plain positive but if we can

1. Assess the talent pool

2. Focus on specific tight races

3. Announce availability of speaker and writers preferred forum; radio, local TV, guest editorial, coordinated blog effort.

The worst potential downside is loss of anonymity to poster. It would allow tracking of every post made, blog entry, message board and it would be taken out of context.

What are some others?

Seems to me the spheres of influence available to us are broad and diverse (certainly some of the below would overlap):

1. media with all the subsets including blogs
2. work network
3. personal relationship network
4. family network
5. demonstrations locally
6. recreation networks
7. exercise networks.
8. hobby networks
9. billboards in strategic locations with riveting, fiesty, clever, humorous fact based as well as satirical words and images.
10. home yard posters much more clever, humorous, satirical and full of punch.
. . .

I would like to see:

1. packages of handout materials tailored for the different groups and spheres of influence.
2. collections of clips and links available maybe on mini CD's with some of Mia T's Shrillery sound clips etc.
3. some folks devoted to fund raising for materials to be distributed to selected locations tailored for such locations.
4. Old folks homes--tired of the DIMRATS using and abusing such folks at election time.
5. Soros watch with particular attention to local implications and his ugly stuff in local arenas.
6. Liason with Conservative evangelical churches that's kosher but effective as well as blowing the whistle and demanding halt to DIMRAT use of churches so unlawfully.
