MTV Video Awards 2006 Live Thread
TV's depths of inanity | 8-31-2006

Posted on 08/31/2006 3:42:56 PM PDT by lainie

The 2006 MTV Video Music Awards are tonight at 8 PM eastern. Look forward to host Jack Black, an endless parade of shameless self-congratulations and drunken F-bombs, and maybe some cretins trying to out-gross past appearances. Scheduled performances: Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera. Mayor Bloomberg announced that Shakira will win (no, I'm not kidding).

To commemorate the show's return to New York City, MTV has produced VMANYC2006, which will be "the site that never sleeps," with a map showing favorite celebrity places in NY.

Gwen Stefani might be boycotting, but we have to have a place to discuss this train wreck. Holla!

I want some balance in these awards. For every political rant I want a wardrobe malfunction.

I wonder if any of the "artist" in attendance are against the war? I'll have to tune in and find out. wait...I think the Steelers are playing tonight. Tough choice.

We should just watch to hear their views. I'm sure it will be enlightening and entertaining at the same time. (GAG!!)

hee hee

It's always fun to point and laugh at elitists. That's the only reason I started this thread. If it's just four of us watching, that's fine with me.

MTV Video Music Awards: Living For the Moment

By Jose Antonio Vargas
Washington Post Staff Writer

The last time MTV's Video Music Awards were in New York, Madonna tongued Britney and dissed Christina.

That was the kind of quintessential VMA Moment that the trophy show sorely needs tonight.

Ratings have dipped. And the past two VMAs weren't particularly memorable. So as the VMAs return to Radio City Music Hall tonight -- the same venue where The Kiss occurred three years ago -- something, anything , is bound to happen.

Maybe Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, both scheduled to appear, will kiss and make up. (Yeah, right.) Maybe Beyonce will bring out some hot firemen as she belts her new you-done-me-wrong anthem, "Ring the Alarm." (Hmm . . . ) Maybe the four synchronized men of the rock band OK Go, scheduled to perform their YouTube hit "Here It Goes Again," will fall off their treadmills. (Who knows?)

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/08/31/AR2006083100250.html?nav=rss_artsandliving/television

Nothing on tonight's VMAs will shock us. Well, except if one of these truly shocking moments happens to occur . . .

· Baby Suri debuts.
· Lil Jon and Paul Wall lock grillz.
· Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson sing a cappella.
· Biggie/Tupac do a crunk duet.
· Lindsay Lohan skips the after-parties for a quiet night of crochet.
· MTV never re-airs the program.
· Shakira's hips lie.

I'm still at work and can't see the show, but I can channel Leslie Nielsen for one piece of advice:

Never bet on the white guy.

haha.. there are a group of pasty-goth white guys performing on the top of Rockefeller Center (I think?) right now. They have a bunch of people dressed in skeleton costumes standing around them. I think they're My Chemical Romance but I'm not sure. I don't know who half these people are.

This guy is the architect of the song (that won't die) "You're Beautiful." His girlfriend definitely is, though she looks like she's wearing her bedclothes. (Petra Nemcova)
