Firefighters are great Americans. And the ones I know would certainly agree that ADD is not an issue in that profession.

Hey, I got College Work Study "grants" as an undergraduate. I never saw one dime of the money though. The fine print said that I actually had to get hired, and that the college was only obligated to consider hiring me but didn't actually have to hire me. Supposedly they had to award the money to *some* student but I had no particular claim to it. I wrote to the Dept. of Education and Congressman about it -- never got any satisfaction. So far as I could figure, there are no records kept of how many students on the CWSP actually get jobs.

I got student loans too to pay tuition that wouldn't have been as expensive if the student aid programs didn't exist, but that's another story.

So, you signed up today and posted a vanity to ask us that? Very suspicious.

I do not receive any government benefits. However, I will being receiving Social Security payments next year. How's that?

Government benefits? Yes, Gomer, if you could call Military Retirement checks a government benefit. I call them (checks) payment for services provided to the government. During my 21 years in the Navy, if you totaled up all the months I spent overseas on long shipboard deployments of sea duty and away from my family, it comes out to over 3 years. Plus, all the little 1 to 4 week short 'local' ops in between. Living out of only a locker and a bunk. Then, we need to toss in my 13 months 'in-country' riding little boats on the dirty waters of a place called Vietnam. You may have heard of it. But, I did have 5 years of shore duty in the States during that 21 years.

Benefit? NOT !! I feel it is something I EARNED!!

That said, Gomer Pile, I would guess that the closest you ever came to earning YOUR "Government Benefits" was watching Gomer Pyle reruns.

"I have adult ADD which makes it impossible to hold a steady job.

"

Really? I know several people with that condition. All have regular jobs. They take their medication and get on with it.

Have you seen a physician for your problem? Have you participated in any programs to assist you in learning how to hold a job?

I have adult ADD which makes it impossible to hold a steady job.

Not schizophrenia? I don't know how you can get a court to award you benefits for ADD.

If the benefits disappeared in your life would you allow yourself to starve or would you take a sedative and start pushing carts at WalMart?

So MichCon, Nice to know another WMPS member. My White Patriachy Trust Fund dividend checks keep me flush with cash, but perplexed as to what to do with it all.

Thoughtful of Carnegie, Ford, Rhodes, Rockefeller, Morgan, et al. to have combined and started it all ... but with the proposed addition of the Gates/Buffet funds a lot of us must be pondering that old Peggy Lee lyric "Is that all there is?"

...and due to circumstances, I currently recieve SSI, AFDC, and food stamps... I have adult ADD which makes it impossible to hold a steady job.

Well, welcome to FR!

Obviously, you have a computer- or access to one- and can get online- as evidenced by your post. However, you don't seem to have an exceptional grasp of information communications, since you only have given short one or two sentence posts.

Now I am far from an expert on ADD- or whatever they call it nowadays- but I would expect that having that specific malady wouldn't restrain you from providing a bit more detail regarding your situation and history, since you are asking for FReeper's input on it.

Be that as it may, you certainly could get online and do even the minimal amount of research regarding your "disease" and learn how many thousands or millions handle it and cope on a daily basis. If you have a doctor who has given you this ADD as a definitive diagnosis, after a complete workup and health history, then you need to change doctors. Or since you have SSI, AFDC, food stamps, maybe it is a government provided "doctor" who has a vested interest in generating and maintaining as many dependent persons as possible...

You could simply do a Google search for natural remedies for ADD/ADHD and find many simple, natural, inexpensive options to try. It is amazing what you can find to help with many so-called "medical" problems, if you are really interested in solving said problems. A good diet, certain supplements, physical excercises, etc., make major in-roads to good health- mental and physical.

Since you can get online to post here, you should be able to research many different occupations or businesses that you can pursue by telecommuting or by work-from-home. Start your own web-based business, or join with some others in theirs.

As a "conservative", there are all kinds of avenues available to anyone who will take the responsibility for themselves and their own welfare. For that matter, they are there for non-conservatives too, although most who subscribe to the liberal viewpoint see "self-responsibility" as some quaint, long forgotten, unworkable tenet espoused by the likes of Ayn Rand, Reagan and others of their ilk- Jefferson, Franklin, Washington, Madison, Adams, et.al. However, for many, "free" government handouts and not having to "work" for anything is a much more enticing way of life.

In summary, whether you are a conservative, liberal or just an idiot, you can take the responsibility for your own self and life and do the work and research and get on with having a life instead of living off the money stolen at gunpoint or threat of jail from other working citizens who have taken responsibility for themselves and their families.

Or you can just go back over to DU and exchange posts with other retards, regaling how you "got all those FReepers" with your witty, satirical, well thought out posts here and how many just fell for it totally- hook, line and sinker.

Gee, why do I have the feeling that the latter alternative will apply more??

Go here for some more tips... and a visual depiction of your place in all this, since your verbal comprehension capabilities are somewhat... ahem, lacking.

Oh yeah, it's the ADD, isn't... yeah, that's the ticket.

No you are a troll. AFDC was abolished 10 years ago.

Oh and BTW, when it did exist, you couldn't receive SSI and AFDC at the same time.
