Woods vents fury at fake photos as crowd turn on Americans
Lawrence Donegan at the K Club
Thursday September 21, 2006
The Guardian (UK)
So much for hands across the ocean. Two days before a ball is struck in earnest at the 2006 Ryder Cup the atmosphere around the K Club turned a little angry yesterday after Tiger Woods took the unusual step of publicly condemning an Irish magazine for publishing fake photographs purporting to show his wife, Elin, naked. "Some things are unacceptable," the world No1 said amid reports he was ready to take legal action against the Dublin-based magazine, Dubliner.
If Woods was offended by events in the run-up to tomorrow's opening day of the biennial contest between the US and Europe, he was not alone. A couple of hours later he and his team-mates were booed by the vast galleries who had turned up in appalling weather to watch the teams practising and were treated instead to a nine-hole session from the American players said by their captain Tom Lehman to be a "fun thing to do when the weather is bad". That was one way of describing it. Another way would be to say it was a chaotic and half-hearted exercise which resembled the kind of self-indulgent knockabout dreamed up after one too many gins and tonics in the bar at the country club.
With their caddies and a phalanx of PGA of America flunkies looking on from the middle of the fairways, all 12 players took it in turns to hit shots into the greens from 100 yards. They didn't hit drives off the tees, barely bothered to hole putts although they did perform a circus act at the 7th where they tried to skim balls across the water to the green.

Yeah, it must really get to them that the game they invented is now played better by a descendent of a former colonial slave with a mother of the only nation in Southeast Asia which no European was ever able to successfully colonize.
Shoot the bastrads or sue them. The latter course wuld hurt more.
can you imagine what would have happened had someone printed a picture of a naked moohamed? lol
ewww...
Let's play golf.
I read it that way too.
Look who is printing this article: the extreme leftist Guardian (UK).
I just wish that Tiger and his buddies will keep cool eno0ugh to win in this tournament, and then take the prize money and run.
From what I have seen (and I am emphatically not a golf person), Tiger Woods is an admirable sportsman, very intent on the game, and yet with good sportsmanship. No jerk like MacEnroe in tennis.
Threatening to boycott future events in Ireland is the correct response. If you attack the paper directly, it will only encourage them to do it more. If you threaten to boycott Ireland, the golfing and business communities will rip the paper a new one on your behalf because of their fear of lost revenue.
I had a chance to go as a tourist last year, I traded the tickets for cash. I can't handle their anti American BS any longer. the are off my "A" list with France.
If they want a guarantee, they can go to Sears. If the Americans felt it would prepare them to do a walk through, that's fine with me.
Tiger has EVERY reason to be super ticked and I hope he does file suit.
What a snarky article. PGA of America flunkies ... The Guardian (HA!) seems to be trying to wage war with words to demoralize the American team.
The Guardian hates America and will blow anything out of proportion.
I need to see these pictures to render my opinion! ;-)
Well, you are not Tiger and you also don't have Elin. :-)
Crap ! You stole my response. :-D
The Irish have seen a lot of Bill Clinton and enjoy him. Perhaps, they think all Americans can be judged by Bill. I hope that Tiger skins them.
Their kids will have a lotta teeth. ;-)
