I'll take the Yankees over Detroit and Minny over Oakland in that series...

And I'll take San Diego and the Mets in the National League.

They did. So did the Dodgers, but it doesn't matter because of the tiebreaker.

I don't know if the Mets having the pitching now that Pedro is out and Trachsel is on the wrong coast.

Yankees over Detroit

Biases not withstanding, I'll go with that. I won't count the Tigers out, however, despite them limping into the playoffs. Teams like the 2000 Yankees limped into October and ran out with a trophy.

Minny over Oakland

Don't know, honestly. Because I only follow the 2 teams to the extent that I see them play, which isn't often, I view them to be more or less equal. I could see it going 5 games either way.

San Diego and the Mets

I think SD would have to be the favorites, seeing as how the Cards' issues are well known by now, but you never know. The Dodgers could give the Mets a fight, but I think the Mets will ultimately pull it off.

This is just my early handicapping of it, and I usually get these things wrong. Who knows...should be a fun October.

You're really going out there on a limb, aren't you?

No the 2000 Yankees limped, the Tigers ran the other way.

A big problem for the Tigers is that they had to use Kenny Rogers today in relief, who probably is their Game 1 starter.

Every National League team today is breathing a heavy sigh of relief that the Astros didn't make the postseason.

The word I see floating around is that Game 1 of that series will be Wang vs. Robertson.

I know this is a playoff thread, but I just wanted to give some special recognition to Tim Salmon of the Angels, who played his last game today. A real good guy who stayed with the same team his entire career, a rarity in baseball these days...
