Looking at a story on how bad A-Rod's been. As a Boston fan, no tears shed here.

New York needs to do something to wake the dead. If they are going to hire a bunch of mercenaries to play the game, they better get someone to bust some balls.

If anyone should be gone its B. Cashman (although I heard he's married to one of the Steinbrenner chicks?) &/or #13.

They just arrived home 45 mins. ago, according to Fox Sports.

Glum Yankees arrive home

Four hours after they were eliminated by the Detroit Tigers, the New York Yankees pulled up to Yankee Stadium in three buses late Saturday night, greeted by fewer than a dozen fans.

With as many police as supporters on hand, most of the players quickly went to their cars and drove away. Manager Joe Torre could be seen, along with Mariano Rivera, Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Robinson Cano, Mike Mussina and Mike Myers.

Backup infielder Andy Phillips was the only player who talked with reporters.

"I don't think we've even comprehended what's just happened in the last few hours, much less to think about what's ahead," Phillips said. "I think it's kind of the usual emotion that you would expect: guys frustrated and disappointed."

Why don't they just change their name to Mariners? They've got every player we ever had that was worth anything, and now Lou.

I still don't think that would do it. Some equate these MFY to Team U.S.A. where you have a bunch of superstars but no team. I recently saw "Miracle" and the line that comes to mind is when Coach Brooks makes the final roster and says he's not looking for the best guys, he's looking for the right guys.

By brining Shef and Matsui right back into the fold, I personally believe they screwed up the chemistry of the team that was steamrolling.

Ree-diculous. His players underachieved. Look at Rodriguez. I bet there were words between Torre and Steinbrenner on the way home, and Joe had enough.

I stopped following baseball years ago once REAL sportsmen died out. These guys are not sportsmen , they are movie star type junkies who charge the parents of little kids $50 to sign an autograph. Could care less if the cancelled all baseball tomorrow. Are there any Americans on baseball teams anymore by the way ?

the team had settled into a mode where they had one formula - one trick on the bag - and when that formula didn't show up, they just give up. there is no "scrappy" nature to the team or the managing (Torre). they've gotten stale, and in a short series where momentum is everything, its most obvious.

Steinbrenner fires Torre but hires multimillion $ aging pitching lineup, which resulted in the loss.

The Yankee farms have a lot of talent. George seems to be only looking at the marquis to fill seats in a sold out stadium.

Report: Torre won't survive Yanks' collapse, to be fired

Heads were likely to roll after the Yankees were eliminated from the postseason by the Tigers, but the opening odds were on Alex Rodriguez going first, not Joe Torre.

According to the New York Daily News, however, the popular New York manager will be fired unless he decides to resign first to save face. Sources say former Yankees player and manager Lou Piniella will be owner George Steinbrenner's choice to replace Torre.

After winning the World Series in four of his first five seasons, Torre has weathered many storms since then, but Saturday's 8-3 loss left him emotional as he pondered his future in the Bronx.

"We felt pretty good about ourselves," he told the Daily News. "But again, that's something for (general manager Brian Cashman) and I and other people to talk about. But right now, it's just &" and choking back tears, he concluded "& it's just tough."

Cashman and most of the front office employees are expected to keep their jobs, the Daily News reports.

Piniella has been rumored to be in contention for the open positions with the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs. He last managed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to a fifth-place finish in 2005. Piniella began his managerial career with the Yankees in 1986. That team finished second in the AL East, the best result of his three seasons in the Bronx.

Piniella went on to win the World Series as skipper of the Cincinnati Reds in 1988, however. After three years with the Reds, he managed the Seattle Mariners from 1993-2002 and the D-Rays for the next three seasons.

Torre has won more than 1,000 games as manager of the Yankees, but after beating the Mets in the 2000 World Series, the Bronx Bombers have fallen short of always high expectations despite the highest payroll in baseball.

Torre has one season and $7 million left on his contract.
