Sometimes people use it to mean “to glance over, skim,” as in I only had a moment to peruse the manual quickly, but this usage is widely considered an error. Darn. I am one of those who councils friends in college not to rely on Internet sources, and it is only an Internet source that you can find in agreement with me. I guess it must be a fabulous Internet source. /laugh
