I've used Firefox 2.0 RC's 1, 2 and 3 with no real problems. Some extensions and themes are no longer supported (or not yet updated for 2.0), but other than that, I think I works wonderfully. I was amused to see that when Macrobloat rolled out IE 7.0 the other day, it looked very, very familiar... ;-)
This is a vanity, but you might want to notify your ping list of some Firefox concerns.
I'm using RC3 at the moment; nothing funny so far. Some extensions and themes were incompatible, but they were disabled on installation. (And one cool thing Firefox2.0 does is to check for updates before starting. If an update is available, it's applied at that point and a restart of the browser isn't necessary.)
I've upgraded 3 machines without issue.
My only complaint is that "silver skin" my theme of choice isn't available. I have however "sphere gnome" again which was my older choice.
PING for later.
I had no loss of data in my update..
People, listen to the thread poster! If you are a power user of firefox, i.e. use more than 5 or 6 extensions, DO NOT upgrade to 2.0 yet!
I use 22 extensions, only 8 were automatically updated for 2.0 upon 2.0 ff installion, 4 more were found going to extension homepages and manually installing new extension builds, but I lost 10 extensions so far.
Do NOT install 2.0 over a 1.5.x installation yet.
Or do a full backup of the profile directory with particular attention to bookmarks.html. Any problems can be fixed with a drag and drop of the whole kit and kaboodle....after an uninstall of 2.0 and reinstall of 1.5.0 If anyone needs the 1.5.0 executable (not 1.5.0.7)...I have it.
bump for publicity
I upgraded the Mac to FF 2.0 -- all seems fine so far.
No problems here. Some of my extensions and themes are incompatible, but I expected that (I have noticed the same thing with past betas and new releases). I'm totally digging the new version. This spell check feature is awesome.
Suck it dry, IE7!
ping for later
I just installed it.
I was using Netscape before, but this new version has some neat features. I still like the Netscape GUI better, but Firefox's inline spell checking might just be the deal breaker. Maybe I'll go see if there's a new version of Netscape out yet that can do it. If not, I might be using Firefox for a while.
