COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rev. Ted Haggard admitted Friday he bought methamphetamine and received a massage from a gay prostitute who claims he was paid for drug-fueled trysts by the former head of the National Association of Evangelicals.

"I bought it for myself but never used it," Haggard told reporters gathered outside his home. "I was tempted, but I never used it."

Haggard, 50, said he never had sex with Mike Jones, a 49-year-old Denver man who raised the allegations this week. Haggard said he received a massage from Jones after being referred to him by a Denver hotel.

Good grief......the press at it again! This is getting so tiresome! Is it Bush's fault that the guy may be a scumbag? NO! Should the amendment be thrown out because the guy might be a scumbag? No

End of story in my book!

When Haggard becomes contrite and announces his entry into rehab, he'll sob like Jimmy Swaggart and then blame his dual depravity on Bill Clinton; ''the Clinton Devil made me do it.''

Mercy. "I bought it for myself but never used it," Haggard told reporters gathered outside his home. "I was tempted, but I never used it."

I don't know where the truth is in this sorry mess, but that sounds so much like Bill Clinton it makes me very, very uncomfortable.

The funny part is that a well known side effect of meth is that it will cause, uh.., shrinkage. It will shrivel up your manhood ...

I have some degree of pity for those whom, like Rush or Jerry Lewis, become addicted because they started out killing pain. But to become addicted to something that has no application but pleasure...that just makes me sad.

Truck drivers will sometimes take meth to make more money by driving longer hours. Frankly, I think I would rather have a wide awake meth addict driving that 20 ton gravel truck behind me than a sleepy tea totaller.

Maybe Haggard needed this stuff to stay awake during his sermons.

Has anyone considered that?

Good point and very true. Lets see all the evidence before we go condemning anybody.

The gay massages helped him how Marlowe? To come down after the meth binge?

Maybe. He told the leadership of his church after his initial denials that some of what was said was true. And after the first lie detector test, his accuser failed some questions. It's too early, yet, to know, but I would not discount the possibility that what he is saying is true. Well, some of it. I have a hard time believing he bought meth more than once and didn't use it. I think it could be possible that because Jones is also homosexual that he considered trying that too, but didn't. Maybe compromised with a massage. And this is God's way of saving this man. I don't know, but until we know more, I won't assume the worst. Yet.

"He is the Pastor of a church of 14,000 and President of the National Association of Evangelicals with 30,000,000 members. He is an important religious figure in this country."

He was, not he is.

A lot of people who become addicted to illegal substances do so to numb overwhelming emotional pain that they don't know how to cope with, or are unwilling to cope with (face and deal with it).

MSM is having a field day tying this in with the elections, the GOP and gay marriage.

Maybe this guy could go on the same back-woods curcuit with Swaggert.

"The gay massages helped him how Marlowe?"

Nah...just to relieve the tension, you see. It's a difficult job he does. Lots of stress. Tension. The crack helps keep you on your toes, and the massage...well...helps relieve the stress.

Feh!

You're right, he's not running for office, he only has weekly contact with the president of the United States of America, pastor of a mega church, and heads an organization of umpteen million evangelicals.

When you put yourself "out there" as he has done, falling to earth is going to make a big sound.

I agree that he must have taken the meth. But I didn't see any reference to sex.

He denied having sex with Jones, just stated that he let Jones give him massages.

...There comes a point when the guy just needs to say, "OK, you got me".

That hardly happens when public statements are shaped by PR Consultants and focus groups.

He may get honest yet. He told his church leadership that some of it was true, so I think there's hope. I think when you're caught so publicly, it takes a little while to figure how you're going to handle it. I remember when Bill Bennett, who I respect greatly, didn't handle revelations of his gambling very well at first, but he did pretty soon after his first stumbles.
