Resolved: We need conservative presence in traditional media. The internet isn't enough.

The main-stream media, the old media, the liberal media, whatever you want to call them, have shown that they can still screw this country up when they really want to.

We do have a conservative Journalism College here at The University of Oklahoma which just became its own college several years ago. My daughter will be graduating in the spring and they finally got rid of their one leftist communist professor who went to Florida State. She couldn't even tell you what political party the rest of her journalism professors belong to as they stress ethics and not spinning or doing biased reporting. Their election coverage has been right down the middle.

When Gaylord left all the money for a new Journalism college, it was with the knowledge that it would lean right because it would teach ethics and honest reporting. The Oklahoman which is family owns is continually picked by Columbia School of Journalism as one of the most biased papers in America. The Oklahoman leans right as well but they are honest in their reporting and if they do make a mistake they correct it.

I've been pondering something similar. My vision was to put a proper newspaper in a swing state with a dying newspaper, like kansas city and build from there, moving in where the old media is dying off. Whatever comes, I'm in.

The problem of mass distribution will kill you, I think, in any major market. This is not to say you can't go print up 2 million copies of it and then distribute it to a swing state, probably for less than the cost of one of those glossy mailers that goes into the trash five seconds after the postman delivers it (unless the postman tosses it himself.)

But there are plenty of small newspapers across the US that are always searching for content. If they nab one of yours (with permission, of course) and print it in their 50k daily, you save the costs of doing it yourself. There's college newspapers that might actually consider reprinting a well written article from another small paper vs from a dying major city publication.

I donno. I've been down this road before. It is a tremendous amount of work without financing or writers (my wife and I wrote everything, pretty much, though our articles were picked up around the world.) It felt incredible when an article of ours actually changed things - one of our articles on a swarm of tornadoes brought a million dollar donation to a small town.

Six years after we ceased publication, we still get people asking if there's a new issue. We were on the floor at the DNC in 2000, as well as the RNC - But it was about then that we just stopped.

But, it could be a losing proposition for a money-ied investor for several years, while he tries to built up his "network".

What I came away from this election was that we needed to counteract the mainsteam media/ entertainment complex.

I think this is a great idea which will work. I went around tonight at our watch party getting interviews for my daughter for the OU Daily who was on the phone.

There have been so many times that having media credentials would have come in handy. I would have loved to be at the press conference of Hastert here last week and asked him why he and the House Members didn't have a coherent message that all our candidates would have used. I have heard him speak several times in OK and it is all the same speech. They never take questions from anyone but the media when they come through Oklahoma.

We need a network.

Not a cable network. Not a new network. We need someone to step up and buy ABC, NBC, or CBS. And we need to get some newspapers too. More than the Washington Times.

This campaign was lost because we were besieged and we lacked the weapons to break out.

With a few hundred small laser printers for small area distros and Kinko's for larger sets...

Well, even if you're talking large printings, a single 8x11, double sided, still runs you more than five cents a copy. Two pennies more, you get 16 double sided 8x11 pages. I'm pretty sure it's still about $200 per spot color, so for another penny, you could have red white and blue on the masthead.

Ditto that. It's pretty clear that Fox News has been lost.

Please folks, lets boycott FoxNews. The leftists that they catered to durring this election won't watch FNC. We made them #1. If we don't watch them, they go the way of CNN, MSNBC and the rest. I have found that local news is not near as liberal as the cable channels. If we have to watch news, watch them. At least they still report the news.

I hate the way they treated Kathrine Harris. With backing she would have had a real shot.

Wonder how much we all donate to RNC, NRSC, and NRCC here on FR? Might want to channel that toward something useful because it is obvious the leadership of those three organizations were not up to the task at hand. I never did like Dole at NRSC.

I am already boycotting after this election and to think I pestered my local cable company to put them on cable. Murdoch is not to be trusted as he is in bed with the Clintons.

The kansas city star may be a communist rag but they also do a lot of local news, weather and sports. Small independent newpapers are given out for free and have thrived for years. Not enough revenue can be generated to fund a start up newspaper to compete head on with the conglomerates like McClatchey who just bought and owns the star. FYI the star has gotten even more leftist silnce they were acquired last year.

It amazes me that in an atmosphere of such liberal bias in the media, where the media have acted as proxies for the Democrats, and have served as the unofficial opposition to the Whitehouse, it amazes me that we still have a 50% conservative nation.

But you are spot on. We need to create Alternative Media and learn from the motivated leftists on public access tv.

We need to move into televisual media because the written word on the internet is not enough. People won't read this stuff, they are lazy.

I suggest instead of pulling a Ted Turner and putting together a syndicate for a Conservative CNN, that we all look at internet tv and .mobi broadcasting. Through internet technology, the barriers to entry are lowered to create online tv stations.

We need to get into New Media.

I think you and others have some great ideas and we need to start exploring them. We need a news site where people can actually read what other parts of the Country are doing and bring out the truth about an office holder. I don't care if it is a Democrat or Republican if they are crooked, throw them out of office. I am tired of people taking bribes from either party. I am just flat out tired of unethical candidates and ones that lie with the MSM covering for them.

Yahoo News makes me want to puke in addition to everything else from the media. AP is a bad joke and slants article after article. I heard on the way home tonight from the OK GOP watch party that the military in Iraq is saying the media is standing in the way of winning the war because everytime they turn around there is a microphone in their face. I think embedded reporters was a horrible idea.

Stop whining all of you. You people are beginning to sound like Democrat whiners; you are making me sick. Ok, so we lost one round. So what ? The Democrats practically have(had) 'defeat' tattooed on their foreheads for decades.
