Armed Thugs Shoot 1 Person Waiting in Wal-Mart PlayStation Line
PUTNAM, Conn. On the first day the much anticipated PlayStation 3 hit shelves in stores across the country, two armed thugs in Connecticut targeted game seekers with fat wallets, shooting one person waiting in a Wal-Mart line who refused to give up money, authorities said.
Police were still searching for the suspects.
The two tried to rob of line of people waiting to buy the new gaming console early Friday. They confronted a "bunch of people who were in line" outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the state police. The new Sony consoles are selling for around $500 to $600.
"One of the patron's resisted. That patron was shot," Vance said.
The two gunmen apparently fled, and the victim was taken to University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester. There was no immediate word on the victim's condition.

I want one (for Xena's Guy for Christmas), but not bad enough to stand in line at a Wal-Mart at midnight. Sheesh.
Connecticut is essentially a democrat state. That's what happens with tough gun grabbing laws.
"...the victim was taken to University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester."
Walmart PR should be over there with a PS3 when he wakes up.../s
You could always go to EBay if you have a spare $3,000 lying around.
Curse the luck! I just used my last spare three grand on my way in to work. (I really wanted Starbucks.)
I still have an XBox 360 on layaway and I'm getting it off in about a month. I was in no rush to get one when they first came out, mostly because they were, at the time, selling last generation games on new generation consoles. I saw no point in rushing to get the same quality gameplay I already had with my PS2.
These people standing in line for days are stupid. It's just a game console. This generation will be replaced by yet another generation of consoles in only a few years. They've probably already started development on them.
As to Sony, they are idiots for only selling 400,000 consoles on the U.S. launch date. They were promising far more. I'm glad I went with the Xbox 360.
More like SONY PR should be there to ward off the victim's lawyers filing suit vs SONY, Microsoft, et.al, for contrived product shortage marketing plans.
My thoughts exactly.
Too bad nobody satnding in line was packing. The thugs might not have gotten away.
Great!
People cannot bother to go vote, but you can bet your a$$ they will turn out in droves in cold weather at the crack of dawn to buy a freaking GAME and risk life and limb to do it. Has the country gone STARK RAVING MAD?
I especially loathe going to Wal-Mart, where there are usually only 2 cashiers working despite having 12 checkout lines. And this is NO LIE. I was in a WM yesterday, looked down and there was a pile of poo on the floor at the checkout line. I assume it fell out of a baby's diaper, but nothing would surprise me. If someone will get into a fist fight or shoot people over a playstation, then dropping a load on the floor is NOTHING!
Ping.
The two alleged robbers reportedly tried to steal from the people on line, but when Michael Penkala, 21, of Webster Mass. confronted the robbers they shot him in the shoulder and ran away, police said.

Not sure you want these folks voting anyway.
true
If it had been a bunch of good ol' rednecks, the perps would have been taken away on stretchers.
Belated thanks for the ping. Had no internet last night (still don't know why), and I have to run for now. I'll ping the CT list later...
Connecticut ping!
Thanks for the heads up, #1CTYankee.
Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
Actually, we're a "shall issue" CCW state.
