(AP) NEW YORK -- A woman who lost $24,000 in cash at a movie theater says she was stunned when the teenager who found the wad returned it.
The teen, Christopher Montgomery, of Lynbrook, didn't want to speak about his good deed. His mom, Donna Montgomery, said he's not the type of person to want all the attention.
But for RoseMarie Limoncelli, the 19-year-old college student's choice was commendable.
Limoncelli, who runs a business, said her life could have been flipped upside down if she hadn't recovered the pouch of $100 bills wrapped in rubber bands.
The money, which she was carrying because she hadn't had time to go to the bank, fell out of her purse as she sat Friday inside the AMC Fantasy theater watching "Happy Feet" with her 8-year-old daughter, Sabrina.
Christopher Montgomery, an employee at the theater, found the money while he was cleaning between the seats. He turned it over to his manager, who gave it back to Limoncelli after she called the theater in a panic.
The teen has refused Limoncelli's offer of a cash reward. But Limoncelli said she hopes he at least accepts a gift certificate to an electronics store.
"It's so commendable to see a teenager do something so wonderful for someone else," she said.
In contrast an illegal stole one of my friends wallet two weeks ago and racked up $2000 in charges. The wallet (along with 10 others) was recovered during a police stop for suspicious activity.

WEll, Happy Feet is a good movie, really cute, but I don't know if I would have gone to see it first before stopping at the bank.
Impressed by the kids act. Not so impressed with the woman. At least lock that much money in the car.
Wow. I hope that I would have the fortitude to do what this guy did, if I were in that situation.
Someone reared Christopher Montgomery well.
Some time back I found a major credit card in a parking lot. When I got home I called the number on the back of the card myself, reporting it being found. It wasn't reported missing yet but was canceled and I shredded the card. From the reaction I got, I know the person at the card company had no expectation anyone would call something like that in. A bit sad, really.
I guess I have benn around and read too much news too long.
I would like to think he was doing the right thing, but fear of getting caught up with possible drug money and be a big motivation too
NY is not small town USA
Some years ago,I had an old gentleman who owned a business bring his Caddy in the repair shop. His complaint was the seat would not move back and forth. When I checked it out,a money bag was stuck in the track. After I removed it,it worked fine.Inside the moneybag was six thousand dollars. When I gave it to him,he was stunned. He said he had been looking for it for two months. Not only was he surprised at getting the money,I think he was more surprised that I did not charge him.It only took me five minutes, and I would have felt guilty charging him.[He was about 90].No,he did not offer a reward!
It's a good thing the cops didn't find the money on her or she'd have been declared a drug mule and lost every penny of it. The fact that a teenager is praised for returning what the governmment would take puts the WOD is focus.
This young woman must be quite a careless and thoughtless fool. She should be on her knees, thanking God and man that Darwin wasn't looking!
