"Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens has been fined $35,000 today for spitting on Atlanta defensive back DeAngelo Hall in Saturday's 38-28 win over the Falcons. Owens won't be suspended for the Cowboys' Christmas Day NFC East showdown with the Eagles.
"We are confirming that Terrell Owens has been fined $35,000," said NFL vice president of public relations Greg Aiello in a phone interview. "It falls under unsportsmanlike conduct..."

Dick Butkus started it years ago. The difference is that back then, players didn't go whining to the media, it got taken care of on the field.
He's actually a wide receiver having a mediocre year because of all his drops, but I know what you mean.
I also get your point about the general lack of respect but I think it goes further than that. I'm really wondering how we can call ourselves a civilized society. I think we're going backwards in the world of "civility".
I doubt any will excuse TO's behavior, even though many will agree that this warranted a fine but not a suspension (as I do). It should be noted that the $35,000 fine assessed to TO is significantly larger than the fine assessed to the last few players who spit on an opponent.
TO is a receiver, not a running back.
Not that familiar with the Syracuse woman, but I would suggest that whatever punishment -- fine, etc -- that is normally assessed for whatever law her spitting was deemed to violate should be the standard.
TO is having a mediocre season because he needs surgery on his finger. That explains a lot of the drops. What's weird is he usually makes the difficult catches, it's the easy ones he drops.
In order for him to be considered to be having a mediocre year, you must consider him a really elite receiver given that he is currently:
11th in the league in receiving yards with 1040
1st in the league in touchdown cathes with 11
Tied for 7th in the league in receptions with 77
If he had actually caught half of his "drops" then he would probably be 2nd or third in the league in catches and yards, and would be running away with the lead in touchdown receptions.
He's an incredibly talented and gifted athlete who happens to think the world is about him. Sooner or later he'll do serious damage to the Dallas Cowboys which, as a Giants fan, is fine with me.
Wouldn't it be cool if DeAngelo Hall hired a Johnny Edwards wannabe to go after TO's fortune, demand that TO be tested for AIDS, etc.? Spit back with a civil suit, that's the ticket!
Too bad Jim Healy is gone.
He would have ridden T.O. mercilessly.
Jim would not call any sports figure a jerk. He would say they are a J-E-R-Q-U-E.
I do. As I stated my above post, he is an incredible athlete.
If he had actually caught half of his "drops"
If Eli Manning had completed half of the passes that were no where near his wide open receivers the Giants would be in first place. LOL
Listen to sports radio in Dallas.....TO has been "excused" by the majority. As long as he catches the ball, he could sacrifice a small puppy on the field, on the star, and get a hearty round of applause. Jerry Jones LOVES T.O. and the attention he brings.
I know the story is a little dated (12-01-06) but he is actually not having a bad year .. dallascowboys.com
I listen to ESPN radio in the Dallas area. Some "excuse" TO; some consider him the devil incarnate; some simply ignore his antics and hope that he delivers on the field. For the most part, his antics thus far in Dallas have been benign as far as the team is concerned. He hasn't thrown anybody under the bus like he did in SF and Philly. The day will probably come when he does that, but we hope it is another couple of years down the road and it won't be too painful to send him on his way to the next team that he can give a boost for a year or two. I don't hold out much hope that he has learned any lessons or reformed himself, but maybe he will. At any rate, right now he is performing on the field and helping the Cowboys win. He is a spectacle and loves to play the media whores like the cheap instruments that they are. They fall for it every time, give him lots of attention and make the story anything but the actual game, which sometimes works to the benefit of the team rather than its detriment.
Not exactly the days of Tom Landry and Tex Schramm, is it?
These guys are out there trying to kill each other and Hall and the commish are worried about spit. Get Hall some panties!
I always get a laugh when one of these bozos is called a "hero". Professional sports is full of bums that are no better than a crip or blood except they have multi-million dollar houses and a lot of bling-bling. None of them are are "heros".
I'm a Redskins fan (oh the agony!) and I think that T.O. fits nicely in Dallas' roster...but he's not been a big part of Dallas' success this year. Hell he's dropped 3 passes for every decent catch.
I think it is ridiculous Sean Taylor was only given a $17,000 fine and now TO $35,000. I think TO should appeal to the NFLPA.
I think unless he was told that the fine was going to be $35,000, it's unfair.
No, but Michael Vick has herpes, so says a woman.
Because people hate Dallas, there are different rules.
Really?? I guess you never heard of Duane Thomas or Lance Rentzel, or Hollywood Henderson.
