Weather Bulletin - Denver (Humor)

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the "Mile-Hi City", we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on.

Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living.

Add to that, I was up for 2 nights straight and had to cancel my ski vacation to the Rockies. I don't blame Bush either.

We suffered through many horrible winters in Boston when I was growing up. Communities helped each other. I always have thought of that after Katrina. We didn't demand the government pay for our roof after '78. We didn't demand the government pay for our burst pipes many times over. There were times we couldn't afford oil for the furnace, and we had no "Saint Chavez & Angel Kennedy" to help us. What it taught me was that people need to help each other and themselves. It never occurred to us to demand the government bail us out.

Where is FEMA?

Oh no Doug. It looks like FEMA isn't coming. What ever will we do?

I don't know Jan. It's worse than I thought. The sled got broken during the blizzard and from what I hear, Hickenlooperduper has cornered the market on sleds. If we are to resume sledding, I may have to fix mine if federal aid does not arrive quickly.

Please forward this to the following people:

Rush Limbaugh

This is short and succinct enough to be read on the air.

Consider yourself HIGHLY commended, sir!

Cheers!

...oh, and Merry Christmas.

I had to walk in knee to waist deep snow to get out of my house, to my car, to and around work...

I think the government should force UPS to deliver my Christmas present.

And, obviously this cold will result in higher than normal heating bills; time for some handouts for that.

Awesome.

Might I add, no NBC reporters faking it for the camera. (reporting from a boat while people walked through the puddle behind her.)

I noticed that at both Walmart & Safeway last night. No fresh produce, bread aisle in Walmart was nearly bare (what was left was in very poor shape).

I really needed bread to make sandwiches next week.

plus

Plus

Plus

equals:

Glad to see you folks are doing alright there.

After the blizzard in IL a few weeks back we had folks in Southern IL who were without power for over a week. There wasn't hide nor hair of Jesse Jackson, Geraldo, President Bush, nor was there a single FEMA trailer to be found.

Strange.

That sucks. One thing we get very little of here in CO is freezing rain.

Bread looks good. Got butter?

Got butter?

Some people.....

One thing we get very little of here in CO is freezing rain.

I'd rather have 2 feet of snow than one inch of freezing rain. It's pretty amazing that so little ice can bring down those big long haul high tension power lines.

The power company down there says they've had to replace over 275 miles of the stuff. That's what took so long. None of their vendors keeps that much of it in stock.

They were working 3 shifts to get it replaced. Oh people were bitching, but nobody got too squirrelly. It is downstate IL after all. You can get away with looting in Chicago but south of I-80 you're far more likely to get your backside shot off than make off with a sixer of Heineken.

So by and large folks helped each other out. IEMA was there and we dispatched some of the State assets we're responsible for tracking but there wasn't any big call for FEMA to show up.

At the height of it there were something like 200,000 people affected in one way or another.

Well that's one more subject I can add to my Preparedness Training Seminars anyway.
