Natalee Holloway's stepfather seeks divorce
Associated Press ^ | January 5, 2007

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The stepfather of Natalee Holloway, the Alabama teen who disappeared in Aruba in 2005, has filed for divorce from Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty.

George "Jug" Twitty filed divorce papers in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Dec. 29. The court filing said the couple separated Dec. 15 and have "such a complete incompatibility of temperament that the parties can no longer live together."

The Birmingham News reported the court filing Friday.

Jug Twitty declined comment on the divorce proceedings, and a phone message left for Beth Twitty on Friday was not immediately returned.

The couple attracted international attention after Holloway, then 18, disappeared in Aruba on May 30, 2005, while on a graduation trip with fellow students from Mountain Brook High School.

The Twittys appeared together during the early stages of the search. As it dragged on, Jug Twitty returned to Birmingham, and Beth Twitty remained in Aruba for almost three months.

Yes, your sarcasm was apparent but benevolent. I didn't read anything negatuve at all in your comment

Sarcasm, irony and parody always need a kernel of truth in them to be effective.

I do believe there's kernel of truth in my comment.

Time will tell.

She was an adult, not a child.

Blame for what happened to her, whatever it was, belongs to the perpetrator and not the victim or her family.

She bears no blame. A person *should* be able to go out with friends and have a good time and get home without being killed. Even in Aruba, or Seattle, or Miami, or Denver or anywhere else.

I reject the idea that there is some level of crime that is so acceptable that when it happens it becomes the fault of the victim for not avoiding it.

***Why do you judge Jug for not doing his part in the "for better or worse" vow? We don't have all the details, and maybe it's something as simple as the poor man doesn't have the "money" to keep on hiring lawyers and suing people?***

***How very sad that Jug couldn't understand the "for better or worse."***

Hi spectre,
How is it judging Mr. Twitty by saying that I think it's sad that he couldn't understand "for better or worse?" That said, it seems that Jug was the person who filed the papers. And as for the "why..." he states that "they have such a complete incompatibility of temperament."

Maybe what's even "sadder" to me is that people are willing to stand before God and *promise* certain things - specific things actually, and they can easily break those promises made.

Why don't people just promise what they mean? For example, "I promise to love you until I say enough's enough" and "in sickness -- but not if it's like a long sickness, and in health." "In good times and in bad, but your chances are lessened during deployments and separations."

I don't think people vow to stay together for the good times. People take the vow *because* of the bad times. People vow to stay together through the bad times, the grey hair, the hospitalizations, the tears.

I'm not judging Jug nor Beth. I'm simply saying it's a sad thing.

Well, thank you.

My old boss gave me that nickname....something to do with once I take hold, I never let go. ;>)

Beth is being described by some as certifiable, nuts etc. Well, I guess I might be nuts too, because if something like this occurred to one of my loved ones, 2 children, 6 grandchildren and Bride of 35 years....... the bad guys would be far better off locked away in a cell.

It's sad all around.

I hope someday Natalee's body will be found so that her mother may reach some kind of an end to her quest.

No use hoping for justice in a corrupt and godforsaken place like Aruba.

I wish peace and consolation to all of Natalee's relatives, especially the ones who read at this forum.

That's the problem with internet chat forums.

**I**, have a racist perspective going on here ?? I will assume you said that in jest. I did not write that article, nor did *I* choose to give it by the hour coverage 24/7. While Googling Natalie Holloway I found this article; until then I didn't even know there was such a syndrome.

Whether or not that's true you will have to look at the economics of it, because economics never lies. Pretty people make better television, better tv = higher ratings. And sponsors gravitate toward shows with higher ratings-- that gives them the most bang for their buck. The nauseating coverage 24/7 by the media is not because they are concerned about her well being. If anything it's the opposite. The longer she is gone, the more mileage they get out of it.

I would be doing exactly what Beth is doing, because nothing and no one will stand between my children and me. I would walk the earth to find them; should I be made out to be crazy, then so be it.

I wish for Beth good walking shoes and angels to help hold her up through her weaker days. Keep moving forward Beth. You are going to make it.

You are the kind the DriveByMedia (and in this instance it includes FoxNews too) loves to prey on. Do you have any idea what the Govt of Aruba and the Netherlands did for her ? Did you read post 85 above?? Ever see pictures of missing children outside your favorite grocery store? How many have them have their govt send three F-16s to help look for them ? Perhaps you should be whining on the DemocraticUnderground.com

It's shocking, stunning, and yes, amazing that a well raised 18 year old made a poor judgement....good grief, get a grip!.............

Obviously there are many definitions of "well raised."

Well raised to our family, means prepared to take on the jungle which the real world actually and truly is. Many teach there children that its not right to be out on the beach, drunk, at 2 am . But they do it anyway.

Others of us teach our children that its not right to be drunk unable to defend yourself, with strangers one should not trust, on the beach at 2 a.m. in the morning. Then we tell and show them why, using forensic pictures available from the internet and other sources. The world is a rough place. And if a child is not prepared to deal with it, then they do end up frequently injured, robbed, raped or murdered.

Liberals tend to raise their children to be "carefree." saying, things like," I made mistakes when I was young," or," You're only young once." To me it is like saying, hey " you can only be dead once." Which is ludicrous.

My father told me once, " Its OK to drink moderately, when you are old enough. But remember this and watch around you about others you know.Never drink when you are in a situation where there are people you would not trust with your life." It was good advice, and today, when I am offered a drink, I take a look around me, before I say yes or no. My dad taught me that drinking with some one is an act of trust. It was fine wisdom and has allowed me to avoid many pitfalls in my life. On two ocassions it saved me from being maimed or possible death.

So what happened in Aruba WAS avoidable. Evolution, if you want to look at it that way, is cruel. The girls genome was deleted from the human race, and she had no children. That is a cruel but true message for posterity, and for parents who do not prepare their children for survival in the jungle.

Why do people think she's "crazy"?

Who knows Beth the best,
you and me, or Natalee?
Mainstream reporters

say almost nothing
about the mother-daughter
relationship, but

every now and then
one or another classmate
gets quoted saying

Natalee didn't
get along well with her Mom.
Aruba reports

had so many quotes
about Natalee saying
her Mom was as nuts

as Hitler [!] her Dad
had to address the issue
in the book he wrote.

Even though her Dad
said he didn't believe that
Natalee compared

her Mom to Hitler,
he said almost nothing to
defend his ex-wife.

I am still praying
Natalee has run away
to get away from

her overbearing
mother. The cruising boat world
makes it possible

to live on the lame
if you stay in third world spots
and want to stay hid . . .

Thanks. And I agree with your "updated" statements but getting over it has to be easier said than done.
Knowing those boys are footloose and fancy free, with their parents protecting them, must be a nightmare.

Always amazes me when someone like you trolls a thread about something that they SWEAR doesn't interest them!
