BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The stepfather of Natalee Holloway, the Alabama teen who disappeared in Aruba in 2005, has filed for divorce from Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty.
George "Jug" Twitty filed divorce papers in Jefferson County Circuit Court on Dec. 29. The court filing said the couple separated Dec. 15 and have "such a complete incompatibility of temperament that the parties can no longer live together."
The Birmingham News reported the court filing Friday.
Jug Twitty declined comment on the divorce proceedings, and a phone message left for Beth Twitty on Friday was not immediately returned.
The couple attracted international attention after Holloway, then 18, disappeared in Aruba on May 30, 2005, while on a graduation trip with fellow students from Mountain Brook High School.
The Twittys appeared together during the early stages of the search. As it dragged on, Jug Twitty returned to Birmingham, and Beth Twitty remained in Aruba for almost three months.

who the hell cares if the Mother is a lib or what. The death of a child is something that, unfortunately, tears marriages apart. Looks like this one is another statistic. Very, very sad..and all you think is important is politics of this woman? Unbelievable.

The death of a child is something that, unfortunately, tears marriages apart. There's no body so no evidence that she died. It's more of a missing person, I think, with a high likelihood that she is dead.

Atleast he didn't take her fishing.

I was wondering what a toll the whole thing was taking on the family and marveled at his devotion as a stepfather. There is also a younger son, who has probably had no attention whatsoever since this whole thing began. The whole thing is so very, very sad. And it was so avoidable.

Spot on Hildy. This does, unfortunately, happen a lot when there's been a tragedy like the death of a child.

Yes. Did you ever see the movie, ORDINARY PEOPLE? It explains this phenomenon exactly. If you haven't seen it, rent it. A beautiful movie. Nobody does character studies as well as Robert Redford, and this one was perfect.

How true.
Side note I still want to know how he ended up with the nickname "Jug".
It makes me think of Snuffy Smith.

I don't know.
I do know that Holloway's killers or abductors should have been brought to justice - by Yankee Gunboats if necessary.

Yes Hildy, there is enough suffering in the world , why should it be supplemented ? It is so overwhelmingly sad when parents do not prepare their youngsters for survival in the jungle. I have seen several instances of the same in my own community here in Vermont. One in particular, a bright young journalist who graduated from the University of Chicago went to south America and laughed when told he needed to get a full slate of immunization shots.
He died alone, in a flea bitten jungle hospital, of malaria before his mom could get to his side.He was also a step child.
Our children need survival skills embedded in their consciousnesses before they move from rural areas into a city, or before travelling outside the country. Many parents do not understand this basic fact, and unfortunately, this is the face of a woman who discovered it the hard way.
