Louisville coach Bobby Petrino has accepted a five-year, $24 million offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become their new coach.

--snip--

"This is an exciting day for the Atlanta Falcons franchise," Falcons owner and CEO Arthur Blank said in a release. "Bobby Petrino is an extremely talented football coach who has done some tremendously innovative things as both an offensive coordinator and head coach, and he brings to us a record of success at the collegiate and professional levels. There is no question that he has a sharp mind, he is demanding and disciplined, and he is a motivator and developer of players. In short, he's a difference maker who will bring a strong identity to the Falcons -- one our team will by into and take on as their own."

--snip--

The leading candidate to replace Petrino figures to be Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe, who has taken the Golden Hurricane to three bowl games in four years after taking over one of the worst programs in the country.

Bad move. The Falcons should have simply given Defensive Coordinator Ed Donnatell the job.

Did they interview a minority for the job? Jesse might be upset.

Maybe just offered it to Sean Salisbury? He's spent enough time going through the cheerleading squad the past year ... maybe he'll be ready to move on to the other action on the field??

College coaches haven't had a good track record in the pros. They were better off with Whisenhunt.

This is a bad move for Petrino. 2 years is optimistic. Petrino can't control Vick anymore than Mora could, and there's nothing to assume the Falcons will give him the control he needs. Gone in two years...

He signed a $25.5 million, 10yr contract with Louisville last summer, saying at the time that Louisville was his family's home...riiiiiiight.

Petrino is an idiot, he had it made at Louisville. That program is very close to winning a BCS championship. Now all he has is the QB killer Ron Mexico. Hell, it might not be all bad, maybe he and Vick could get an endorsment deal for VALTREX, because something is damn sure gonna flare up during his tenure, so he may as well do herpies control comercials!

Why does the NFL continue to hire College Coaches? Even Steve Spurrier couldn't do anything in the Pros.
