Facing criminal rape charges, Brent Roark - a Jefferson City High School math teacher and softball coach - resigned Tuesday.
The seven-member Board of Education had scheduled a special, closed-door meeting to discuss his situation, after a Cole County grand jury earlier this month indicted Roark with two counts of second-degree statutory rape.
The Board of Education voted to accept Mr. Roark's resignation at the special meeting, Superintendent Bert Kimble reported Wednesday morning. The board executed a separation agreement with Mr. Roark, at his request.
The separation agreement says Roark agreed to irrevocably resign immediately and includes no special arrangements or promises.
The board agreed it will take no action to seek revocation of Roark's teaching certificate so long as (Roark) does not plea nor is convicted of any offenses involved in the indictment.
The grand jury charged Roark with having sexual intercourse in May and June 2005 with a female minor child under 17. The indictment doesn't provide any victim identification, nor does it say whether the case involves more than one victim.
Roark was placed on administrative leave last fall, as soon as allegations surfaced about the sexual activity.
Everything wrapped around this is extremely unfortunate, Kimble said. We feel like we took the action we felt we needed to take, when we were made aware of allegations.
We provided an opportunity for the teacher to have his case heard before the board of education, and the board took action based on the former teacher's (resignation) request.
Keep your filthy mitts off the students you sicko.
Its getting so you can't even send your kids off to school and expect them to be safe. Pretty sad indeed.
This guy was a coach so he was probably given more leeway with the students than was necessary.
Too bad this rapist was a Mr. - otherwise he would only be guilty of "sexual shenanigans"...
Right and if the lil sl*ts run around half naked and come on to you then still leave your hands off of em
why should he? this guy will get 20 years if he is lucky not a slap on the wrist
If only teachers were allowed to marry, these problems wouldn't happen.
