Word For The Day, Thursday, February 1, 2007 - pellucid
dictionaries ad nauseum, internet | February 1, 2007 | secret garden

Posted on 02/01/2007 6:09:11 AM PST by secret garden

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

pellucid \puh-LOO-sid\, adjective
1. Transparent; clear; not opaque.
2. Easily understandable.

Example sentences:
The prevailing atmosphere as one cruises Kukulcan Boulevard, the busy strip where most of Cancun's 122 hotels are clustered, remains that of an Orlando or a Las Vegas dropped intact next to pellucid Caribbean waters.
-- Larry Rohter, "What's Doing in Cancun.", New York Times, March 8, 1998

In her scrupulous and pellucid prose, she appears to distance herself from the optimistic Californian light.
-- Cynthia Ozick, "What Writer's Writers Write.", New York Times Magazine, January 2, 2000

Etymology:
Pellucid comes from Latin pellucidus, "shining, transparent," from pellucere, "to shine through," from per-, "through" + lucere, "to shine."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

It was an e-mail answering one from my neighbor on the other side of the lesbian next door and blondie the dyke-we were wondering if they would be bringing home some replacement lawn ornaments when they got home tomorrow, since the gazing ball, its' ugly pedestal and several whirligigs were smashed by falling limbs in the storm and got put out for the trash service on Monday before they left for work-nothing lewd...

You should find a good obedience training class, especially one that tests them at the end for a "canine good citizen" certification. We took Robbie through such a course last year and VRWCboy did the training with Robbie (they recommended that one person do the training with the dog through the entire course). They worked basics like "come" and "sit" and "stay" as well as proper leash behavior such as "heel". Also "front" and "finish" (front is sitting directly in front of the master facing him, and finish is then circling around the master coming to a stop and sitting at the master's left side). It was a lot of fun seeing Robbie working with VRWCboy.

that will all be covered in this class of puppy K, and when she is bigger she will go to doggy bootcamp at the Olde Town School for Dogs, where Darby and Loosh both went for the more intensive obedience training. and yes, in intend to let xsbrownie do all of this at the puppy K class. she will enjoy it and is older and more experienced than she was 3-4 years ago when Loosh went.

It is pellucid that your title has been suspended because we did this word before: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1641110/posts

"... your title has been suspended because we did this word before:"

I am equanimous about it. After all, I already have a title:

NicknamedBob - K'nigget. Imperial Weatherman and Subverter of Manitoba. Supreme Architect of the Floating Citadel. Royal Bard of the Order of the Holy Aranea, Spinner of Complex Yarns

That's what makes it such a useful word. Like Joaquin Phoenix's character in Gladiator. He was a smarmy one, too.

It is also pellucid that we send you to time out. You know the rules. We often repeat words in here, for various and sundry reasons. Those who point it out go right to time out. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. ;)

you have another snow day??? LOL!! we have a two hour delay this AM for absolutely NO reason! none! the roads are wet and it isn't even as cold as it had been earlier. so calculating 2 hour later start times for the three of them totally screws up my AM here!

It is 38 and cloudy, but it is supposed to clear up later-maybe it will be nice weather for a hike if I can get off early enough. Since I'm not working near the city today with all it's traffic, that is a distinct possibility.

The kids on this road were all delighted when they got 2 snow days because of that winter storm last month, but now they are not so happy-they will lose 2 days from spring break to make up for it.
