Word For The Day, Thursday, February 1, 2007 - pellucid
dictionaries ad nauseum, internet | February 1, 2007 | secret garden

Posted on 02/01/2007 6:09:11 AM PST by secret garden

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

pellucid \puh-LOO-sid\, adjective
1. Transparent; clear; not opaque.
2. Easily understandable.

Example sentences:
The prevailing atmosphere as one cruises Kukulcan Boulevard, the busy strip where most of Cancun's 122 hotels are clustered, remains that of an Orlando or a Las Vegas dropped intact next to pellucid Caribbean waters.
-- Larry Rohter, "What's Doing in Cancun.", New York Times, March 8, 1998

In her scrupulous and pellucid prose, she appears to distance herself from the optimistic Californian light.
-- Cynthia Ozick, "What Writer's Writers Write.", New York Times Magazine, January 2, 2000

Etymology:
Pellucid comes from Latin pellucidus, "shining, transparent," from pellucere, "to shine through," from per-, "through" + lucere, "to shine."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

pellucid

my pellucid poetry leaves no room
for convoluted mysteries, expect
those I deem, remain cloaked in
shards of myth and myrrh
bits of hints may depict a scene
from yesterday filled with wit,
or soaked in tears of heartbreak
drenched in misery, mostly, though
clear as a bell when written
only to please.

It's pellucidly plain that the pantsuit would be a pathetic pandering president. Even the Toe Sucker agrees.

She is of the half empty glass club. I hope it snows enough to cancel school tomorrow for her.

Biden's pellucid statement shows the obvious racists qualities that exist in the democrat party in order to obtain power by dividing the country along racial lines.

Good Morning!

Interpellate, pellucid, people rushing about pell-mell ... are we operating on a Pell grant, or something?

Not to distract the class, but John Huang2's essays are a pellucid delight.

Most of the schools here in Hoosierville are closed. Maybe an inch of snow.

Relieved is probably a better word - I guess it is easy to forget, how stressful this is for the kids.

Don't make me whip an eraser at your head, buddy. ;) We had a 2 hour delay for school which just turned into a full day off so I was preoccupied.

So far the snow hasn't accumulated much at all....we get it daily, but it blows off the roads.....occasionally we have to sweep the side walk with a broom. (bite my tongue!) I haven't seen the sky in weeks...it has been overcast that long.
