I haven't watched the show in years but if, perchance, I was up for an award I'd put on my tux and tough it out.
I would do the same, and then leave when Eddie leaves. I wouldn't want to be the first to leave though, that wouldn't be very smart on my part.
Anyway, Rene was quite upset and left the after dinner early and in tears and guess what, she won the next year....so maybe Eddie will win next year...although probably not for Norbit,,,hee hee
Wait . . . I wasn't nominated.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?
thanks for the headsup daisy..
It is too bad. I think he thought he was a forsure (much like Helen M)...
He is a talented man & I have thoroughly enjoyed his work over the years.
It is hard to not win~
His interview with Barbara Walters pre: awards was good.
I would have been out of there too. Even if had won, I wouldn't have stuck around any longer than necessary.
At least Eddie makes movies people actually want to see, unlike most of the winners who had 1/10th the boxoffice that Eddie's have.
Eddie is crying all the way to the bank.
I don't know his political leanings, but I have heard from other comedians and from people who meet him for the first time, that he is a very gentle and humble man.
Fifteen years ago, a friend relayed this story about her aunt's visit to Las Vegas:
The aunt had gone to Vegas for a weekend of gambling with several friends.
After the final day of gambling and losing, she turned to head to the elevator to go to her room for the night, ready to check out the next day. As she started up, the elevator stopped to let on two black men.
One of the men said, "Hit it."
The woman went sprawled on the floor...expecting to be robbed. She remained there until her floor.
The men let her up and she exited the elevator, unhassled. Still, she worried they were following to mug her in her room. As she entered the room, she noticed the two men hiding beind a corner in the hall. And a moment later, she saw shadows near her door, and hushed voices.
Then, they went away.
THe next morning, as she went to check out, she went to pay the remainder of her bill. She was informed her entire stay was payed for and was handed a note:
"Thank you for the best laugh I have ever had."
Signed, "Eddie Murphy"
Apparantly, when she was on the elevator, it was Eddie and a friend, and when one of them said, "Hit it," he meant, "Hit the button to our floor," not "Hit the floor, lady."
So true...the buzz around the movie sites was that the Academy was upset that Eddie was using his Oscar nomination to promote his latest movie Norbut which will probably make more money than Dreamgirls..
I have loved Eddie since his days on Sat. Night Live and hate that the Academy snubbed him....
"Delirious" is still some of the funniest standup I've ever seen.
I kinda like Eddie and the fact that he does not hang out with the other celbs who are so full of themselves.
I heard Angelina and Brad didn't bother going either? She's too big for that now......LOL
Eddie probably knew he wasn't going to win and was probably shocked that he was even nominated at all. If you recal the Academy has a long standing grudge against him after calling them out when he hosted the show a few years back.
Correction. Not hosting but presenting. He was slated to act as host but that was nixed
I didn't care seeing which starlet was with which star or wearing whatever dress.
As received in brain:
I didn't care seeing which starlet or star was wearing whatever dress.
Don't forget Velvet Jones.
Face it Eddie, if you didn't get the Oscar for Pluto Nash, you just aren't getting an Oscar...
